No more USPS MOs

Just sold a bow to a young man in PA. He paid with a Postal Money Order.

Do you know how hard it is to cash a MO for over $100? Holy crap! Went to 3 different post offices today and not one of them could do it. The big PO had 4 different tellers going, but not one of them had the cash in the drawer to cover the MO. Each of them had "almost enough" but Post Office regulations won't let them transfer money from one drawer to the next. How stupid is that!

I bank with NFCU and the closest branch is over 100 miles away. I guess I am going to have to mail in the deposit.

So, no more money orders for me. I can mobile deposit a personal check and have the money in my account in less than 2 days (or know if the check won't clear too). Probably going to go that route now.

Depends on the bank. PNC Bank will not accept a mobile deposit of a USPS money order. SunTrust will not accept a mobile deposit of a USPS money order into a personal account but will in a business account. YMMV...

Correct. Navy Federal will not accept mobile deposit of a money order.

Your better off if you take it to your bank. Mine cashes them. I was surprised. Post Office said they didn't have enough cash on hand. Bring it back later in the day.

The PO has turned into a pain in the a$$. I had a falling out at mine when I tried to cash a $60 MO. "I don't have that much in my drawer". I bitched, the "supervisor" came out, and said there is nothing she can do. It didn't end well.

It seems they have a policy, X amount of money is placed in each drawer each day. That's it. If it's a big PO that has a lot of turnovers, you might get lucky.

My bank will depost POMOs in my account no problem. If it didn't, I would find another way, and it would not be paypal.

You think that's bad, just wait until you make the mistake of selling to a buyer in Canada who pays you with a Canadian Postal M.O. Ask me how I know! That debacle cost me 3 hours, and 5 trips to various Post Offices in the SF Bay Area. NEVER AGAIN.

Online payment is the only way to go, or personal check from a trustworthy buyer and mobile deposit.

US Bank lets you mobile deposit postal money orders. If you want to cash them at a PO wait until the end of the day when they have enough money. Overall they are a pain and the issuer has to pay for them.

I have never cashed one of the hundreds of MO’s I have received for payment at a post office. I just deposit them at my bank, which is 500 yards away. I cant imagine banking at a bank 100 miles away. That is your real problem. Not MO’s.

I’ve completely fired the USPS, they suck in way way possible... I use 100% electronic methods that are instant without the hassle of messing with checks, money orders and banks. I assure you old farts if I can do it you can as well, I hate having to go electronic but it’s that or I simply won’t buy or sell it after way to many nightmares in the last year messing with all of it.

Call them and tell them you are bringing in a PSMO and the amount. Tell them to have the cash on hand. Did that for a $3600 rifle I sold.

USAA has no issues with mobile deposits and MOs.

It seems like the USPS needs a service where the can verify & cash your USPS MO and ACH deposit it to your account. If they can't ACH, maybe they can do it through your debit card.

Electronic money MOs/transactions would be a nice addition too.

In general, I want to avoid most of the commercial/big-tech solutions, they're all anti-gun. More often than not, using it for a gun related transaction is a violation of the TOS.
