Here's one that Brownells has offered for quite some time. It has worked pretty well for me as a brake cleaner in the past. fwiw.

Didn't anyone ever teach you not to shoot over a dry bore. You might try a Slightly damp patch of Hoppes or Montana Bore Conditioner down the barrel after cleaning to fire the first shot over. But more so than that, ever hear about a cold bore shot. If you shoot more than 200 yd yards with the first shot you will learn, or drop points. Need a little warmth in the barrel.

I guess the barrel manufacturers who say never shoot over a dry bore don't know what they are talking about. So it's not about chill buddy, it's about good information....or not. Like Gayle McMilllan’s unproven theory (what did that hack know) on barrel break-in and cleaning. You’re claiming that cold bore shots are measurably equal with a clean bore versus a fouled bore - regardless of temperature? Dude I’m all fine with an exchange of ideas but please check yourself at the door before accusing others of being inexperienced or uninformed.

This is a topic of endless debates, theories, assertions, and approaches. Add in the wide variations in precision requirements of different disciplines, the different rates / volumes of fire of different disciplines, the different cartridge capacities (i.e. amount of powder burned) and is seems to me that there is no one size that can fit all.

If you shoot enough and measure your results on target, it should not take a great amount of effort to find a cleaning process that meets your performance needs. Experience does matter since it is objective evidence.

By trying different process and measuring performance on target, I discovered a simple process that works my shooting requirements, produces the results I need so I think anyone else can too.

Never in my life have I shot a bullet down a barrel with any form of oil in it, where is this gospel posted on Bartlein or Kriegers website ?

Since this thread as moved in this direction, I'll add my .02. Nobody suggested that you put oil on your bullets, but I do believe it is important for the bullet to ride on "something" for the first couple of shots until some carbon has built up in the bore. I doubt that it matters much what you use whether it be Rem oil, lock-eze, moly or something else. The point being that clean, bare metal on clean bare metal can't have a positive effect. If this thought process is nothing but snake oil, I know I still sleep better at night knowing that the last patch down the bore of all my rifles is with colloidal graphite.

Another barrel cleaning discussion that devolves into “my method is better and your method sucks”. lol. With all this “chilling” in the discussion, I’m surprised that we have never discussed pressured pulverized dry ice blasting to clean hardened carbon. They use it to clean graffiti off walls and all sorts of other cleaning because it’s far less damaging than sand blasting.

Yep, certainly didn't want this to be a "How do you clean your barrel" thread..
I know what I do works because I see good results on target and verify my methods with a bore cam. I was genuinely looking for something to make it easier on my elbows vs scrubbing with bore paste. I have my own methods and prefer to stay ahead of the carbon fouling vs shoot till it goes to hell. I have learned that by pushing the limits only means more scrubbing later on down the road.

I'm not sure if the dry ice blasting would clean the carbon ... I haven't tried cleaning a supressor/barrel with this method but watched a lot of Automotive videos where it doesn't do any thing for light surface rust..... just not sure if it would be able to get the tough carbon if it doesn't remove surface rust?

Tommie, I know your a good fellow since I think you shoot a 6BRX. Have a good day and shoot all X's. After many years of the 6BRX I am moving to a 6 BRA this year. I just want to try something different. It goes agsinst my philosophy of If It Isn't Broke Don't Fix I. But I never said I was smart, just stubborn. You will do well with a 6BRX . Magic number 2975 to 2990 fps.

Nothing cleans a suppressor like an ultrasound cleaner.

Ask if you want details. Mine holds about four gallons, and cost less than $200.

It is a Vevor. They make all manner of models.

It has six ultrasound transducers and a heater. What a deal? I'm a mechanical engineer, and I think this is a truly impressive machine.

I did the "aluminum foil test." Put a sheet of foil on the thing for 30 seconds. Are there lots of holes in it? Yes? Itbe good to go.

That's a great idea. I have a smaller one. Might be worth pulling the barrel and sitting the chamber end in. It should reach up enough to hit that nasty hard carbon in the first few inches of the barrel past the throat.

I would like to see an indication under each screen name with s choice from a list provided by this forum.I think that would be a HUGE asset. But, wish in one hand..............

CLR on brakes, turns hard carbon into black jelly that can be sprayed off with brake cleaner or air. I suspect this is similar?

Not to pick, but that is not hard carbon like in a throat. That's more like packed in soot.

My 2 cents....there is a huge difference between carbon and powder residue at the muzzle versus the carbon pressure-baked on at the freebore.
