Yeah, diamond dust in the paint? My local Ford Dealer has a Raptor in stock @ $112,000++ plus $4,000 in paint and fabric protection...... must be some pretty special paint......
Could be because I couldn't see any gold flakes......Yeah, diamond dust in the paint?

Probably a speed sensor.
These^^^^ Ford put the speed sensor on the rear end housings of the solid rear axlesI found this diagram. Not specific to Ranger, but almost certainly the same. Rear anti-lock brake sensor.

In Nevada we call sagebrush rash "pin striping".My 2014 Ram 4x4 is covered in brush rash head to toe
A relief valve that keeps the pressure from building up. Something is cause it to blow out the top. Is the diff over full? Is it full of water from water crossings? Change the fluid and only fill to the spout.Thought I'd tag this on the off-topic thread, since there are some Ford guys here):
My neighbor's 4x4 Ranger has a rear differential leak. (8.8" Trac-Lok) After spending considerable time cleaning it up, I now see where oil is coming out. What is the device on top of the diff. housing, above the fill plug? There's a rubber boot on it and an electrical wire sheath heading off somewhere.

Good questions. The oil is just slightly below the fill hole. On a sloped driveway, parked pointing downhill it dribbles out, slowly but steadily. Parked uphill, nothing comes out. The truck has never been treated to water crossings, the long-time owner is a woman, and a timid driver. The truck makes occasional trips to the landfill and to Home Depot and the like.A relief valve that keeps the pressure from building up. Something is cause it to blow out the top. Nice, I live here and its nevada pin striping, Looks real good after a few outings. In Nevada we call sagebrush rash "pin striping".

It may not be what I thought it was. The ABS sensor and the relief valves are different. The ABS sensors are usually at the end of the axle near the hub while the relief valves are either on top of the differential tube or the differential itself. But if it is leaking out the top, something is causing the pressure to push it out.Good questions. The oil is just slightly below the fill hole. So you're saying the leaking ABS sensor is a pressure relief valve?

It's not leaking much, just several drops after a highway drive, then it stops. It's definitely coming out around the base of the ABS speed sensor, which has an 'O' ring around its stem. There are videos online dealing with a leaking sensor on Ford 8.8" diffs. It seems reasonable that if the axle speed gets high enough (highway speed) it could sling oil up at the sensor, and a disintegrating seal or a sensor not bolted down completely could let some get past. There is a vent hose coming out of the top of one axle tube, still pliable but I suppose there could be a blockage down in the orifice on the axle tube. But if it is leaking out the top, something is causing the pressure to push it out.
