New to F Class competitive shooting, scope assistance~

Always wore the SCBA. Cancer is too prevelant in our field. Moving to NC so will be in a more gun friendly state and getting to compete more. The move is going to be the worst part.

Stay safe brother.

I know this is an old thread but in case people are still looking, I would highly recommend the Golden Eagle for you. The Nightforce Competition 15-55x52 scope is the other top alternative but that will cost $2400 while a used Vortex can cost as little as $1200. I've used the GE on my F-Class Dasher for a couple of years and it is highly competitive. I don't dwell on hyperbole though. I look at the score and the 1,000 yard group size. My GE shoots 2.5 MOA groups at 100 yards and I haven't shot any scope that does better, because it is ME that is missing world records. That scope does fine. The NF Comp has even greater clarity but it won't shoot higher scores.

First and foremost, you want a second focal plane scope so the reticle stays optimum size regardless of magnification. Secondly, you want HIGH magnification. 55x or 60x is my favorite for 90% of my shots but on occasion I have to crank down as far as 18x to defeat mirage. I use a scope tube extending out to my muzzle to avoid mirage caused by barrel heat. F-Class heats them up, even for the little 6BR. The EBR-1 is my favorite reticle. I like the fine dot but do like the graduated reticle for very long range prairie dog shooting. I'm planning to switch to the NF Comp for a season just to give it a spin. I don't think it will affect my score but I want to shoot it for a while.

A scope tube extending from the objective to the muzzle is a bad idea. You are creating a a micro-climate just in front of your riflescope that will be heated by the Sun differently from outside the tube. You are much better off with a mirage shield on top of the barrel.

All decent scopes do a great job, until the mirage shows up.
