New RCBS scale coming at some point

Not sure why you think you're the only one using gravity. We are ALL weighing charges using one instrument or another, or sometimes even more than one. We are all looking for the weight, which is predicated on the acceleration provided by gravity.

Indeed, if it weren't for gravity, we would not even have to worry about ballistics, just conditions. Hum come to think of it, if there was no gravity, we wouldn't have any atmosphere to produce conditions that we have to read.

Didn’t say I was the only one, many I know use them exclusively. I keep a balance beam scale simply as a backup...

It's a polished turd, unless we know how the scale mechanism works. The 1500 has one tenth (.1) grain resolution on the screen but it will throw charges that are as far as .8 grains away from the target, while saying it's dead nuts on the display.

This has not been my experience. If it was, I wouldn't use it. When I first got my CM 2 years ago, I checked every charge it produced against a Redding #2 that I used for years and never once got a wild deviation as you describe. It was a big leap of faith for me to move on to a automated powder system so I kept checking it over the course of many reloading sessions. Eventually, the #2 went away as I became satisfied that my charges were close enough with the CM. The Redding #2 hasn't seen the light of day since.

Is CM dead nuts? Not a chance. My game is SR group and score where powder charges need to be close but not perfect, so I'm satisfied with the small deviations I'm getting. They aren't enough to get worried over. My targets are good so all is well.

In short range BR where loading at the range is normal, many guys are still throwing charges with a Harrell's, Jones, Bruno, etc. and never weigh anything. Some guys who used to throw charges have converted over to a CM. Quite often, there is very little time to reload between relays. The CM is considerably slower than throwing charges, so these guys wouldn't do it unless they felt the CM was providing them more consistent powder charges over the dropped charges they used to do.

That's my take on it over the course of a couple years. YMMV.

The new RCBS powder dispenser goes for $840 and weighs a powder charge to .04 gn, and is an unknown quantity.

The V3 Autotrickler, Autothrow, with scale kit goes for about $950, and weighs a powder charge to .02 gn., and has a long history of reliable performance.

I bet a lot of people will spring for the extra c-note to get the known performance of the V3 system with double the stated accuracy. RCBS has almost priced themselves out of the market before the product is even released.

My thoughts exactly! No way I would pay this when Adam's set up is so close, dollar wise. :D:p

Not true. When used as a scale the value shown is the indicated weight+/-0.05 gr. When the scale is used with the dispenser the accuracy should be greater than +/-.05 gr.

The weight of the charge dispensed is not dependent on the resolution of the display.

Just sharing my experience when I was comparing the charges it throws and then weighing them on an FX120

I'm still waiting to see the test that shows throwing to grain of powder makes a difference. At all...

I have velocity spreads to single digits sometimes as low as 2 fps.

A grain makes a huge difference in my setup, a Kernel not so much

They’re supposed to be formally announcing it tomorrow. Not sure if they will include ‘for sale at retailers’ as well or if the formal announcement is simply to let everyone know what it’ll do and when they can buy it.

Going to be a long, sleepless night.:D

I'll trade my FX120i in straight away for that machine. My RCBS Chargemasters are already very accurate with .1gr resolution when verified on the FX120i. If that thing can hold .02gr resolution accurately and consistently, that would be the cat's a**!

Agreed. I’m just very excited that more companies are pushing boundaries. Even if you’re someone who doesn’t want to use it, you have to appreciate that the more precision powder measures hit the market the better it is in general. Competition while painful for some is almost always a benefit for the end user.
