New military round....

Does anyone absolutely know what caliber the Army is going to start using? I’ve heard all along the 6.8 SPC. Now I’m getting informed it may be some variation of the 6.8 SPC. What is the latest rumor?

...and if anybody really ever attacks us, Bernie’s peace negotiation will be to offer free college to their kids!
Seriously. The existing inventory has worked just fine. When these new “thoughts” arise, I think it’s just some new pressure from a Lobbying group pushing their agenda to sell billions in new Arms to the Guberment.

Worked fine for Hadji, he's knows when he's out of range of a .5.56

Right now the Army has "decided" (as if) on a bullet diameter: .277. The cartridge is up in the air, aka you submit an idea. Like pretty much every other attempt at finding the next-big-thing for infantry weapons I suspect this will go nowhere, but not particularly fast.

The 6.8spc would have worked fine for what it was made for if Remington hadn't screwed it up with the wrong powders and twists. However you can always count on big green to ruin a good idea. Here's what it did first time out at 100yds from a open rest and 90gr varminter's. I was only looking for what a basic group would look like, the flyers were on me, the group was nine rounds total out of a ar15, The dot is 1".

There are several initiatives currently moving through the testing and development stages.

6.8 NGSW next generation squad weapon. .277 high pressure round, light weight machine guns to replace M240's. Sig's bi-metal case is an example. The other companies are working with polymer cases. All based on a .473" diameter case head.

6.5 Creedmoor to replace the 7.62X51. Seems there's a problem defeating level 4 body armor at 600 yds.

All this is for a peer on near peer conflict.

There is also a difference between what they test, evaluate and then want, and when they try to actually buy it. Once they see the price tag is where it usually stops.

Info was released at the SHOT show of SigSauer's cartridge. It shoots a 0.277 bullet from a hybrid case. The case has a base of stainless steel and a brass body. A 135 grain bullet exits a 16 inch barrel at 3000+ fps.
IT's gonna be, a bit "Hard" on barrels at, 3,000 FPS in a 16" bbl ! My .270 WSM drives Sierra, 135 grain, BTHP Match bullets @ 3,150 FPS out of 24" bbl., But I'm NOT, expecting "great" barrel Life at that, speed ( and I try to keep it "cool" / slow fire !)
135 grains @ 3,000+ FPS in 16 inches,..= YIKES ! AKA cookin' !
Thumb's UP for, the 6.5 Creed, tho ! And, the 6XC for an AR-10 or, AR -15 Semi-auto "Desert Rifle" for some REACH without,.. the Recoil ! Sierra 107's at, 2,900 FPS would get, the Job , done !
