American 30 or the like

So I was on black hole weaponry, getting close to pulling the trigger on a 243 lbc. barrel, and I accidentally clicked on 30 cal, and saw American 30.

After a little research this cartridge really intrigued me. The only thing I didn’t really like about it was that they are using 6.8 SPC brass, which from what I see, only startline has avalible.

Anyone here have an American 30 or a 30 cal AR15 with similar ballistics? How do you like it? How is the accuracy? Any drawbacks?

Thanks fellas

I had one for awhile. It was neat enough but I have been on the 6.8 spc band wagon for about 20 years now and the A30 didnt really do anything I wasnt already doing with the same 16" length barrel 6.8. I was mostly using lighter 110-130s in it though.

300blk is ok also you can get decent velocity with a 110gr from a 16" barrel.

I'd like to play with the 300 hamr from Wilson combat sometime.

How’s it shoot? Started looking into that as well. I’d probably end up with a 20-24in barrel if I do go with the cartridge it’d be for target and whitetail.

The A30 I had was decently accurate but for whatever reason it was gassy probably the carbine gas length. In a 16" it didn't really do it for me.

I'm not big on ARs in general I use and abuse them as hunting tools. The shorter the better for me. I have an 11.3" 6.8 that I shoot suppressed, it kills deer really well.....I have a 16.5" bolt action 6.8 that has an elk kill also.

The 6.8spc was my favorite for quite a while. I still have some loaded 90gr varminter's in bags in storage somewhere. The best brass at that time was either Hornady or Sliver State Armory, who if I remember right was bought out by Hornady later on.
Remington Had brass for a while as well. There were both large and small primer brass, so pay attention to what your buying if/when you buy any. I never found any performance difference between the two.

Also that 90gr .270 round likes looser twist rates as well in AR barrels, The last AR upper I put together was a bison 5R 16". Here is a pic of the very first 100yd group, (9rds) from a bench with that barrel, open front rest and no rear bag. I was simply trying to see if it would group. The dot is 1". The flyers are on me.

Nosler bought SSA as far as I know. The old/original SSA brass was pretty decent I had poor luck with the newer production.

Hornadys brass is good it's small rifle, Remington is mediocre and large rifle.

Federal, starline, s&b make brass also but I don't have any experience with those.

The 6.8 looks to me to be a winner for guys that like a predominantly hunting based AR.
