Forster full length die,all I have, run out on alot of them aren't very good after resizing?.003-.006

Just got these, trying to get them prepped, was concerned about the runout?didn't know if it was normal,or go ahead and load them ,shoot them then resize and runout gets better??
Will be used for out to 300 yards ,target shooting

I just checked a fired hornady piece of brass in this rifle and almost no runout.
So I guess I just need to load them up and shoot them then they should be fine after that?

I may have missed it but did they have the run out before resizing?

If you are using an expander ball it can causing problems.

Are we talking runout of the bullet in the case or runout at the neck when the rest of the case body is running true? How are you checking runout, the hornady tool? If you're reading runout at the neck, have you checked the case body for parallelism with the neck to make sure the body is running true? Jesse

Just the neck of the brass, yes the body is true, with a concentricity gauge
I guess I'll just load them up and shootem, they should be OK after that, just needed info

With new brass i just started running them all through an expander die with the right mandrel, then load them and shoot them the first time... second go around i do all my case prep and fl size with a bushing.

check your Lapua brass for run-out after firing then again after resizing. If you're getting .003" to .006" of R/O after sizing disassemble the Forster die and check the expander ball stem for R/O. ............ thoroughly clean the threads on your press to insure any build up of trash that might cock the die out of alignment is removed, Ditto die threads........ Fire forming may very well resolve your problem (that's why we do it) if It doesn't let us know there are many other possibilities

If you check your brass, new or fired, before checking run out you can determine if the run out is caused by the die, your process, or is the brass itself. If your dies are inducing run out the try a partial neck sizing with a neck sizing die and check the run out. Run out of the neck should be measured on the inside of the neck unless you are turning your necks.

I have found this happening from time to time.
I use Redding and RCBS Dies with a Floater Ball and Lube helps a lot.
I had a brand X Die once that turned brass to scrap.
One thing to test , after you size a Case , check for run out.
If you have .004 run out , put it back in your Press and rotate it a couple times and re-size and recheck ? It may change.
Die or Press maybe your trouble.

If the die is just a standard die you can get a tapered expander ball and that might help. Expander balls are the culprit for more run out than any other cause during resizing. Case neck thickness varies a little and I think it helps with the run out plus the fact that the die squeezes the neck too much then the expander ball irons it back out to final size. You don't get run out with a Lee collet neck die but it wont bump the body.

Then there is seating the bullet and the Forster, Redding seating dies that hold the body and have a longer guide for the bullet give less run out than anything else in my opinion.
