I visited Joe Updike ( http://www.accurateriflesystems.com/ ) the other day about some stock work and he showed me the new bi-pod modification unit he made to use components from the Sinclair Tactical bipod. I really like the Sinclair bi-pod with having a really wide stable side to side design but it's got a bit of slop forward and backward.
Randy Wise and Joe came up with this design which is really a stable front unit. Joe loaned me his to try this weekend on my new 15 7/8" pistol in 223 1000 yard gun at Rayners until mine is ready. I tried it out today checking my 100 yard zero, it does add a bit more weight to the gun which is a good thing. His still has the original rubber feet which I plan to change to an aluminum design when I get mine.
Very very stable, absolutely zero movement front to rear and side to side. It uses the pivoting center mount and also the nice adjustable legs for nearly any height elevation changes needed. It's not a fully adjustable bench-rest style rest but for the type of shooting we do changing benches and shooting multiple distances it's perfect. I think Randy had purchased a similar bi-pod of another brand and thought he could make a better one. I really like it so far.
This was the original Sinclair Bi-pod with folding collapsible legs. He is selling the machined aluminum center section to convert to the wide legged design. Very high quality work and he also can make custom changes to suit a particular need. His new aluminum chassis designs are some of the very best I've seen for long-range shooting off a bench or prone for many applications and gun types.
