New ChargeMaster Lite, I Thought I Would Check It.

I wish this was not true but know that it is. Hence, got to figure out a safe way to transport and set up and use the fx120i mobile. @BartsBullets has a real fancy box that he built. What are the rest of you using?

For long range, I preload my test rounds for the day before the match. Then I load up my ammo at the hotel.

I had only been testing either powder or seating, but if I load up vials and bring my seater to the range I can test both.

I think a chargemaster can create amazing results. Way better shooters than me have surely proven that. But for me it’s the TIME that the V3 saves that I love. If I can get a tool that’s at least twice as fast and more precise, then, well, we reload so we can shoot right, and less time loading equals more time shooting. Time is limited, for me.

I have a Denver Instruments TP-153 that I use in my bullet making endeavors. it supposed to be accurate to .01 grn. Probably more like .05.

I decided to set my new ChargeMaster Lite up to weigh 35.0 grns of my favor 6BR powder, Accurate 2495, then lay the charge on my Denver instrumentsScale to check it. I did “tare” the pan each time.

I am using a DC battery on my ChargeMaster Lite.

Here is how it came out. Out of 48 charges, there was a .1 grn variance. But since the Denver scale has in reality a .05 tolerance, let’s call it .15 grn.

Of course, this is the controlled enviroment of my kitchen cabinet. 99.9% of my loading is at the range.

You bet. I went to the line in the first Match with what I thought was going to be a competitive tune With the 2015 BR. If I had preloaded, I would have been hobbling down the road on the rim all day.

I almost didn’t bring the 133. I tossed it in the truck as an after thought.

Hundreds of threads and thousands of posts have been written on the importance of finding loads which yield flat spots in the velocity curve over .3 grains or more of variance yet we still agonize over .01 grains.

I always marveled at bench rest shooters and for me always find it intriguing the loading regiments at the range.

Here is my range loading equipment for my 6BR, which I shot today.

You can go to any short range Benchrest Match and see every shooter loading with their own version of the equipment needed. I like this set up because it does exactly what loading equipment is supposed to do. It makes straight ammunition that is consistent in the required dimensions, ie, shoulder bump, full length sizing, and bullet seating depth.

I have never seen a benchrest shooter have that little stuff Jackie. I usually drag at least 4 times that much with me.

Benchrest is not a thing around my parts so I do my best to look as much as I can on this great forum and a couple others. I will probably end up with trailer and rehabbing and towing. I know people do it because I seen them. Good friend went down that road and its terrific. I am not at that point yet. Again thank.

IMO +- .05 is plenty good for short range. If you look at the records you might want to consider that all of Ocock’s are with thrown charges.

Jackie, I shoot SR score in the northeast and in the past 5-6 years have only seen one person load at a match. This was this past October everyone else comes pre-loaded.

I shoot mostly UBR score in WV and Ohio and dabble in group here and there. I'm one of the few who doesn't go pre-loaded to score shoots. This is an extension of me starting off in group, where every single man is loading between relays out of necessity.

At the UBR score Nationals in Kentucky, there were some guys loading between relays, but I believe the vast majority were pre-loaded.

I like the fact that the CM-Lite has a good wind break so I don't have to box it in to hide from the wind.

I ran your data for the stats and I think you missed the low value unless that is a typo? You showed a 34.90 just a little farther down?

It doesn't change the conclusions here anyway. If you estimate what would happen with enough charges thrown and being checked as done here, you would eventually end up with a range of about 0.17 grains which is what most have been reporting.

Luckily my range(s) have a club house and power. I put it all in a flip top tote and make a day of it. Try not to forget important things like powder funnels (used rolled paper one time), data book, scale power cord (doh!), Calipers. I need a checklist.
