new ammo manufacturer?

You don't think opec pinches down on oil when they don't like the price their getting for a barrel of oil?
You oversimplify. Compare corporations in the US (with its anti-trust laws enforced by FTC and DOJ) to a cartel of largely autocratic nations at your peril, sir.

Whens the last time you heard of the Federal trade commission or department of Justice acting on those laws? Strange, the only peril I feel is our nation heading down the same road to autocratic rule. Mistake our corporations and politicians acting in our interest at your peril sir.

Sure, but my response was to the suggestion they're voluntarily holding back, to drive up prices, which is nonsense.

Makes absolutely no sense in withholding product or production, All Ammo manufactures want to sell as much product as they can. Nothing like the oil industry which has different cost and production depending on the oil fields and area of production.

Oh, four days ago. There seem to be several FTC actions most weeks:

And it references minor actions. No world shaking judgment like ma bell in past years. Cherry pick all you want. This site isn't the place for politics and your arguments aren't the flex you seem to think they are. I'm done and going back on subject.

Theres a reason this hasnt been done before
Yes I know because the right people have not came up with a way to do it... Hey I wish them all the luck in the world. Some one here on the forum used to work for an automation business. He stated it could be done "if" some one was willing to pony up the money to figure it out and design the equipment.... I wish I could remember who that was..

I live about 5 miles from the olin plant. I know quite a few who work there and 2 have worked in the primer department. One still works in there and the other transfered departments. Both said safety was over the top. Special clothing, shoes and other ppe. Neither are engineers but both said they couldn't see automation being possible. It takes a fair amount of, I guess you'd say, feel for the process. I've toured the plant years ago and this department was not on the tour for safety reasons. At that time it was set up in its own building away from everything else.

If we can get a man on the moon with a slide rule and tubes in the electronic equipment, they can automate primer making..
I think with the feel it takes to make a good primer and only able to make them in small batches for safety reasons is why youll never see it automated. If they needed to make more they would just put another building up to house that operation. Im guessing they dont need it since they have excess primers now over what theyre loading for their ammo

@Dusty Stevens Well how do they prime match rimfire ammo? Automated??? That crap is superbly accurate....... This may seem like I am being a smart a$$ however I actually don't know how they prim it but I assume it is automated... I think I read that a long time ago when the Aguila plant was set up in Mexico and RWS I believe it was helped them with the setting up of the process of priming the cases.. But that was a long time ago and I forgot how they actually primed the cases..

Either way, if someone does figure out how to automate primer construction, it would be an opportunity to lower the cost.

I watched a couple videos about chip manufacturing. It’s amazing to learn how far robotics has progressed. I betcha they could do the automation for primer manufacturing. The question is wether some one would invest the time and money to do it.

When I started in the semiconductor industry in 1966, they were spreading the uv coating material by hand and cutting the masks by hand. Now it's all automated. Wafer handling between stations is all automated - i.e., robots load trays to be processed at a station, robots do the processing, robots move the wafers to the next station. Techs monitor dashboards for problems.

They rub it out into trays exactly like centerfire except the pellets are on a tray instead of in the cup. They drop them into the case, a rounded end mandrel goes in, smashes it, then the case spins slinging the compound out into the rim.

At the rate they make primers a fair amount is automated. You dont have a bunch of dummies running ammo plants. If they could completly automate it they would. Just for the safety reasons.

As a side note.....The Canadians will be building a small arms
ammunition plant in Ukraine. All aspects including powder
mill. Which makes a slight point. With all the military's ramping
up currently, The civilian market can take another set back, or
slower to get up to speed. It could really put a negative effect
on European powder shipments to the states if stock lots are
reserved.
