New 277 Fury

This new cartridge has me wondering. When we talk about high pressures like 80k, are we assuming the limiting factor is the ammo itself? For instance, if I put steel heads on my .223 cases I could load them up to 80K & my bolt rifle would take it without any problems?

I think the U.S. should adopt the 7.62x39 and put the billions of stupid "research and development" into something worthwhile like veterans' benefits. If this is the firearm and ammo of the future we are in more trouble than before.
At least run with what the have now and pay Elon Musk to develop a damn laser gun! I've been patiently waiting on this for a while now since i'm not the best at reading wind ; ) I wonder if they would shoot sub moa?

Great....Then no shooting on rainy, snowy, foggy days....That'll shorten a conflict up...............

I assume civilian will be brass, seems to me military will be the 2pc plastic/steel. Treehuggers wil be hatin it.
You can buy the Hybrid cased ammo from Sig. It comes with a 150gr. Accubond @ 3100+ fps at 100 yds, The brass cased 135 gr is also available from Sig.

I can't imagine that kind of commitment from Uncle Sam if this new ammo didn't work as advertised. And yes, there is no reason it couldn't be wildcatted. 3100 fps from a .277x51 with a 150 gr bullet? That'll bust the short magnums. Moving up to 80k PSI would make a 250 gr from a .338-.277 Fury wildcat get, what? 2700 fps vs the .338 Federal getting 2400 fps? You'd be nipping on the heels of a .338 Norma without an oversized action.

I am glad they picked 277cal. For one .277 represents an area that is good but not great in any given category thus capable of lots of different roles but not really excellent at any of them, just an all around versatile caliber. Secondly 6mm and 6.5 components are hard enough to find already without the military gathering it all up. Additional production

Additional production capacity is coming online through the reactivation & retooling of WW II facilities. Even so, the replacement of .223 & 7.62 inventories worldwide with the new cartridge will take a decade.

HAHAHAHA! You obviously have a much lower expectation than I do from the future laser blaster technology : ) They seemed to have worked out just fine in the high humidity of the swampy marshes of Dragonsnake Bog in a galaxy far, far away ; )

Supposedly, this cartridge-with the loading they’ve chosen, will defeat any known or projected for the foreseeable future body armor. If that’s indeed true, even if it’ll only defeat current body armor, would be a worthwhile investment.

If you guys think they spend too much on small arms, take a look at what they spend on the various aircraft projects.

Low hanging fruit, they need to standardize more on combat uniforms. Getting better compared to the days of the ACU, MARPAT, ABU, and the ridiculous Navy blue camo.
