New 22BR and 90VLD's

I think that if I can get my hands on some N160, I may give it a shot to see how it works.
I will be shooting this one again in two weeks. Using left over ammo from Perry.
I am looking at running a test this week with RL17, just to see what kind of results I come up with. Other powders that I have considered is RL19, but there is a feeling that it may be a lil on the slow side.
Update, just looked at the current powder burn rate chart from Hodgdon, it looks like some other considerations would be N550, Norma 204, AA 4350 and Hybrid 100V. Another powder that I had considered in the beginning was IMR 4350.

when 17 came out,.. well sometime after is when i tried to get it, finally got a jug an never found a good use
Hope it will work in the .22 Br for you.. i'd like to use it up to.. lol's thought 17 to be slower then varget for the heavey bullets ?... have you experimented with 748 looks faster varget ?
was gona pull that barrel again ... i'll wait to here about 17...

Went out this morning and shot five rounds with the RL17, just to see where the pressure point was. Looks like it is 33 grains in my rifle.
Will probably shoot a few groups at 600 tomorrow.

I continully hear about rl17 not being as temp stable as varget etc. Wonder what the temp range is that people have had those issues?
Let us know how it works. Got a large jug I would like to use. Just wondering if load developed this time of the year would hold in the temp swings of our area for the same time. Allways wondered if the people having issues developed loads in the early spring or winter and shot them in the heat of the day in summer etc...

Powders that a lot of folks claim to be temp sensitive, I have to wonder if they develop the working load in cooler temps and try to use it in the heat. You can indeed run into issues even with Varget. I have personally experienced this myself.
Do some powders have a greater affected reaction to temp changes, I believe so. The way I see it, develop a load in the temp range that you plan on shooting that load in.
In the same token, I feel that certain powders work better in some cases better than others. Some powders like tight neck tension and others like light tension. I have had good results in the past with RL17. Just being curious if it like the 22BR with the 90's. When doing research for this round combo, Quickloads brought up RL17 as the number one choice, H4350 was second choice. I have a good working load with H4350, but my curious nature wants to know if indeed RL17 will work in the case.

Well did a test at 600, all groups were under 1/2 moa but one group will deserve a try at 1000 yards. It was 32.5 grains of RL17 with the Berger 90VLD. I will probably not try the load till Monday, unless weather changes those plans.

That will depend on the chamber. But what would do is to load some up in half grain increments starting low and try to find that pressure point. Your working load is going to be with a .8 grains below the pressure point. What I can also say is that my experience has shown that RL17 seems to like heavy bullets.

Jamming, the seating measurement is base to ogive 2.053, which is ten in with my chamber.
I was using older brass that had been shot in another rifle. Been using this brass for testing. Have the bullet ten in and check neck tension. I am running around 2 thou tension, I am sure that it is soft seating to where it wants to be. This is my usual routine. Most times just a thou of tension, but never more than 2.
Are you turning the necks? I do, and size the wit a 246 bushing and the run the necks over a K&M expander.
