Need 'Pet Loads' for Upcoming 22-250 Cartridge Guide

Forum Boss

Administrator
A new .22-250 Cartridge Guide will be released with the updated web site in a few days. I'm looking for all options from the 35-35 grainers all the way up to the 80gr match bullets.

Thanks in advance, guys! ;D
(And yes, we have a 6.5x47 guide in the works too -- hopefully by Xmas.)

Format -- Please provide
Bullet mfg, bullet weight, bullet type (e.g. Berger 55gr flat-base hollow point)
Primer brand and type (e.g. Federal LR)
Brass brand (e.g. Lapua 22-250)
Powder Mfg. and type (e.g. Hodgdon H322)
Powder charge in grains
OAL and seating relative to lands (e.g. jumping .035")
Velocity (if known) with barrel length (e.g. 3300 fps in 26" Shilen)
Comments (e.g. "Very accurate load, 1/2" groups, excellent ground hog load that is NOT temp sensitive)

IMPORTANT: If you are running anything other than a standard .22-250 SAAMI chamber be sure to make note of that. We do NOT want to confuse normal loads with AI loads.

You can reply in this thread. However, if it is a hot load, please do not post here, but send email to mailbox@6mmBR.com

You can just copy the following and paste into your post or email message, and add the data:

Bullet mfg, bullet weight, bullet type:

Primer brand and type:

Brass brand:

Powder Mfg. and type:

Powder charge in grains:

OAL and seating depth:

Velocity and barrel length:

Coincidently, I had asked for load suggestions for a 22/250 over on the Saubier site. The suggestions may not contain all the info you are looking for but it is probably worth a look. Great bunch of guys there. Where is your list or guide going to be posted? Thanks, Peter.

55gr. rem. psp--55gr. nos bt-- both within .020 of lands--rem or win brass-- any primer(fed, win, cci, alcan, haven't tried tula or wolf)-- 36.0 grs. imr/aa 4064-- 3650/3680 fps-- 2/788 rem, 1 recrowned, 24" bbl--2/ruger #1's, 1 26", 1 24", both stock factory. been using this load since 1968, pretty well duplicates factory rem load. different bullet wts. will string vert., but stay inside 1 moa easily, each in their own group. other powders will print different bullets in individual groups too, but scattered, not in same vert. string. hope that is explained well enough

Bullet mfg, bullet weight, bullet type-- Sierra 52 grain HPBT Match
Primer brand and type- Federal 210 Gold Medal Match
Brass brand- Lapua 22-250
Powder mfg. and type- Vihtavouri N140
Powder charge in grains-36.5
OAL and seating relative to lands- Seated .001 into lands
Velocity- Have not chronyed yet
Comments- In a bone stock Savage 112 single shot with 26 inch SS fluted barrel. And 1 lb. pull Rifle Basix Sav-2 trigger. Using Redding type S match die set, this die produces very concentric, uniform loads and rifle shoots in the 2's all day long. Make sure you weight match bullets and measure by bearing surface.

I have two (2) 22-250 loads that work VERY well. First one is from a Rem. Mod. 7 "Old Style" (very short action). It wears a Dan Lilja 26" 1 in 8 twist. I use Lapua Brass trimmed to 1.900 and Fed 210 "GM" Primers. Bullets are Berger 75gr. VLD's seated to 2.082 which is 20K OFF the lands in my rifle. It uses 35.5grs. of RL-17 which produces 3225 F.P.S. and shoots into 3/4 inch at 200 yards. I use this as my "windy" load for prairie dogs. My 2nd load is from an Older Savage 112 with a 26" carbon steel "Stock" (Savage) 1 in 12 twist barrel. I also use Lapua brass in this rifle trimmed to 1.900 inches. It shoots a Sierra 50gr. "Blitz" bullet seated to 2.185" (5k off lands in MY rifle). The charge is 36.5grs. of Varget and a CCI BR-2 Primer. Velocity is 3700 F.P.S. and shoots consistent 3/4" or better at 200 yards. This is my "relatively calm" (for wind) load for prairie dogs.

Comments: produces less case stretch and less flyers than the varget, IMR 4895, and H380 loads I've used.

With all the listed powders for the 22-250 I keep coming back to H-380.
