You need to go into the menu and scroll through the settings, checking that settings are correct for what your shooting. One of the last items you set is the trigger, toggle it to doppler. Also check your trigger level, set that to 1, and check your offset setting, I use 12” but if your LabRadar sits closer to the muzzle than that use an appropriate setting.

If you are shooting non braked, or braked, the muzzle needs to be behind the unit, If you have a suppressor, the muzzle needs to be in front of the unit. Barrel placement is key and crucial. Center it up on right middle screw on unit, Don't fight this.

First, the Trigger Source should be set to "Trigger", which uses the internal microphone. Do not use the "Doppler" trigger setting, which is intended for large slow-moving projectiles such as arrows. The Doppler trigger is not activated until a moving object enters the radar beam. It will give you velocity data from a bullet, but only starting from the time the bullet entered the beam and back-calculated for shorter distance. According to the LabRadar folks, data obtained for bullets using the Trigger Source internal microphone is much more reliable than that obtained using the Doppler setting.

Second, placement of the unit is key to its responsiveness using the internal microphone trigger. I find the positional images illustrated in the manual to be misleading at best. Mine will not activate the vast majority of the time with the rifle muzzle placed as shown. I put the muzzle about 5-8" to one side of the unit, and perhaps 1-3" behind it. The muzzle is offset to the side of the unit just enough that the muzzle blast doesn't markedly buffet the unit by also having it slightly behind the unit. I could not position mine in any other way that reliably captured data for all shots.

Third, adjust the Trigger Level setting. In addition to determining the position of the unit that worked the best, I also found that adjusting the Trigger Level made a noticeable difference. Mine will not register shots on a Trigger Level setting above "3". At that setting, the internal microphone will occasionally miss shots, regardless of placement of the unit relative to the muzzle. A Trigger Level setting of "1" will not miss a shot, but it will also occasionally pick up shots of other nearby shooters. I usually set min on "2". If it starts picking shots from adjacent shooters, placing a screen of some sort (i.e. range bag, piece of cardboard, etc.) in between the nearby shooter and the LabRadar unit (but obviously not in-between your rifle and the LabRadar unit) usually seems to do the trick.

Apparently, the sensitivity of different units seems to differ. A friend has one that seems much more sensitive than mine. His unit doesn't seem to care much where it is placed relative to the muzzle, working at relative locations [to the muzzle] where mine won't pick up anything at all. I had to experiment around with the positioning and settings adjustments to find out what worked best...as I'm sure you'll figure out what works best with yours. The instructions for the various settings and how to change them are all in the manual.

Apparently, it's hard to find plastic straws in some areas . I just glued a 1.25" long 3/8" diameter steel bushing into the "V" Notch on top of the unit with 100% silicone rubber.

I used to use a builders triangle on the front of unit to help look down the V notch which used worked great until the last few weeks . I now use a pen that I sit in the V notch and stand back and look down it .. Helped big time to get on target

For rifles without brake, I put the muzzle about 5" to one side of the unit and be flush with the unit.

For rifles with brake, I put the unit about 12" behind the muzzle and about 5" to the side

That's what works for me.

Something that helps me get it on target virtually every time out to 400m is I stand about 6 to 8 feet back from the unit when lining it up, helps get the height and angle close enough 99.9% of the time.

Mine sits on the bench even with the front rest and maybe 12” to the side. Rarely misses a shot. Thats way farther away than seen here which is an impossible position for my setups

I found out 1 thing the other day to look out for.
While load testing everything was working great but towards the end I started to get shots not recording and was getting pissed off . As it was all working great . After looking for why I found the labradar had turned on its mount from the blast (no muzzle brake either) causing it to go out of alignment...
My labradar sits about 15cm/6inchs to side of barrel and a few inches back

Same thing happened to me.. lock tight the nut.

Mine likes to come loose at the tri-pod adapter, just a small wing nut holding it on which will work loose. Going to lock tight it as Rushty did. Cut a short piece of clear tubing and glued it on for a sight, seems to work well. Really like the Lab Now that I have some what figured it out.

Bought a JKL Precision external trigger that activates the LR with the guns recoil. I can place the LR back on the bench where I can see the screen, review data, save strings, etc. while staying seated. LR still has to be aimed but doesn't get blown around.

Your post sounds like you have spoken with Lab Radar. Was there an explanation regarding varying sensitivity among units? The experiences you describe are also mine.
