I will be in the market for a new chronograph in September. I am really interested in the Caldwell Velociradar with it's chirp radar technology. It was supposed to be out in May and I was hoping to be able to get some decent reviews from folks who bought one before I jumped. It's still not out yet. I'm reading these Garmin Xero vs LabRadar LX threads carefully.

The guys that started Garmin left Honeywell because their suits sat on their hands with consumer GPS, said there was no market. My 2¢ LR was a leader, now a follower. I had the Magnetospeed, now the Garmin.
Oh yea! I was considering a Lab Radar for a long time but the $ put me off as well as my observation of the trouble {missed shots, poor battery life, need for additional stock mounted “trigger“.etc} and having used Garmin products such as their GPS & on my push bike speedometer, when I heard that they were coming out with a chronograph I just waited…. It is everything I had hoped for in a compact package.
Never misses a shot, need a re-charge perhaps once in 3-4 range visits {even having shared it with the friend that has a Lab Radar (now going cheap) after he found hauling that big piece of equipment around and having it fail to register about 10-15% of his shots to be just too frustrating}
I have never had it miss a shot or pick up a shot from another bench or when on the mound in F Open and the blast from some calibers can be significant!
The current version of the app is perfectly reliable, in my considerable and recent experience.

No need to read carefully, it's really simple. Yes you can start a fire with a stick and a string, maybe. Or you can flick a Bic. Your choice.
That’s great that they finally fixed it after several years of complaints from users. The ability to control the chronograph from an app is a big plus that is lacking in the Garmin. I hope their new unit works well.
Wanted to know as regular Lab radar was never reliable at my local range which had many metal baffles down range from benches. No daylight showing over backstop. Went thru 2 labradars and all the different triggers and spent more time fiddling with unit than shooting so returned to Magnetospeed V3.
My son just came down from Arizona and brought his Garmin and it worked perfectly so assumed the new Labradar would work too. Before investing more money in cronos it’s nice to know what other shooters have to say.

Proof our educational system is failing.
The garmin is good, no question. Before it came out the Labradar I was everyone’s pet. Any bugs were noted, but accepted as part of the game. Now, with the Garmin, everyone dumps on Labradar I. OK but let’s remember that LR I was first in the game. Without it there may well wouldn’t be a Garmin. Functionally there’s no difference between Garmin and LR LX. pick the one you like and go with it.

If I understand correctly the Garmin beam is on all the time. The LR LX requires you to turn it on via a button. They don’t trigger on muzzle bang. Maybe give LR a bit better battery life, but not by much. basically they both sit and wait for a bullet to break the beam. Better solution for both and much better than LR I needing noise to trigger. One less variable.
I'm no expert but I had two LRs and both were junk. I can only use my experience. My Garmin has been flawless. My experience mirrors many others. I know a hell of a lot of guys had and still have LRs with great success so there's that. I just wasn't one of them. After two, I didn't need a strike 3. Just glad I sold them for almost what I had into them. I see there about giving them away today.
Gen 1 or 2? I had a Gen 1 and had more than my share of problems with it. In my research, I felt that the LR Gen 2 measured up a little better. Metal vs plastic on the Garmin. Better warranty on the LR to name 2.
You’re lucky to get what you paid for them. I have mine up for $100.00 bucks and have no takers.
You know I really don't know. Bought them a couple years apart and no luck with either. Very finicky
I sold them before the Garmins came out. Got lucky I guess. I was planning on buying another Magnetospeed V3 when I sold the LRs. Then saw the Garmins and bought one. If I had waited till after the Garmins were out, I'd have had trouble selling the LR.
my current take on it:
bc calculation function on the labradar is a gimmick for powder burners, for airguns it would be nice.
i like the brighter screen on it, but i don't like how you need to arm it.
i currently own the garmin and have no need for the lx, but i wouldn't mind owning one
