When I enlisted and went to B 1/506 Inf, every NCO in the Company was a Combat Vet in Vietnam except one, he had a 2ID Patch from Korea, he was there after the Army stopped issuing the CIB but still awarded the Div Patch.

Lost my identical twin brother on Hamburger , 5 - 21 - 69 . And "Charles" paid in spades for over two years . I wasn't there . I didn't do it . And you don't have no freakin pictures .......The real heroes of the Vietnam War have their names enshrined on a Wall in the District of Corruption . And fifty years later , nobody really knows why we spent so much of a generation's best & brightest in that God forsaken shit-hole .

Sorry to hear about brother , I still feel guilty for leaving my Brothers , we didn't come home all together , if you were lucky enough to make your day , leaving was hard even in that shit hole. It was only one year in my 74 years and it remains in my mind as if it was yesterday. It truly is a Band of Brothers.

I spent three years in that part of the world ‘69-‘71 and ’73-‘74 and thought I knew why but got a better feel for it after the Berlin Wall fell. Vietnam, in a real sense, was merely a battle in the Cold War — which was almost as bloody for the workd as was World War 2. Think of Greece, Korea and the many conflicts involving defense against communists between 1945 and 1991.

We thought we won in ‘91 but thirty years later it appears to have been only a temporary win for our constitutional republic.
