My 6BR in 300yd F-class. Which bullet?

How far out would you rely on the 90 grainers in the 6br?
If you look solely at the BC of the 90 gr weight class 6mm bullets, you're talking about wind deflection comparable to a .223 Rem F-TR rifle with 75-80 gr bullets (30" barrel). So of course you can shoot the 90s at 300 yd. But will you win using those? That totally depends on the wind conditions, the skill of your opponents, and the bullets/loads they will be using. In all likelihood, you will be giving up a fair bit of windage to some of the other F-Open shooters. If the 90s load with outstanding precison in your setup, it might compensate for a small disadvantage in wind deflection, but probably not for a large difference.

FWIW - I've won a number of club matches shooting Berger's 80.5 Fullbore bullets from a .223 Rem F-TR setup at about 2860 fps. The ballistics of that load are probably not too different than what you might get from a 6BR with a 26" barrel using Berger's 6mm 90 gr Target BT. Then again, I wasn't competing against F-Open shooters. That would have made a BIG difference, and not in my favor.

600( bart set a record of .311 5 shots at 600 with 80 or 88..not sure which) plenty good
You post that Bart shot his record with 80s (or 88s) - but the article says he shot the record target with 105 Hammers.

Im very surprised more people arent using lighter 95gn bullets for 300y. If you check the ballistics of lighter 95gn loads at the higher velocity possible, the wind drift is about the same as 105s at 300, but you have the advantage of lower recoil and less hold/bag set up sensitive.

two different records or i could be wrong

For 300, I sure like the 90 BT and it’ll shoot very well from that twist. Very forgiving on depth in my gun- once I jumped them more than .010 they made little dots for me.

The 105 VLDH is a killer too and almost always available. Your throat isn’t going to move enough in a BR to worry about retuning more than on occasion.
That’s all I shoot is Berger 90BT . I’m the weak link at 300 yards .

I've witnessed and under 2 inch, 10 shot group shot at 600 with 90 grainers by a forum member on here.
I once shot a 3” group at 900 yards on the 11th shot we decided to come down a click so the target pullers could see the bullet strike again. This was in the Palma team match at Perry, ended the day with a 449-30x , the missed shot was called a 10 at 2, came up a 9 at 2 just on the other side of the line. 233 Palma rifle with Berger 90’s 27.2 grs 2000MR

I shoot 90s exclusively. My friend was using 26” barrel with 105 and I was using 30” barrel with 90s . At 1K yards I was 4 MOA less than he .

My F-Open 6BR weighs 18 pounds. I shoot 105 Bergers at ~2965. I have to say that recoil is not in my scope of concern. The rifle barely moves when shot free recoil.

Wow that is fast for a standard 6BR. I kind of didnt expect the recoil of the 6BR to be too much concern compared to your usual 300WSM. Lovely little things arent they.

I have a newer 26” Shilen 6BR no turn neck barrel with a 1:7.5 twist that I’m using for strictly 300yd F-class. I’ve been using 107 SMKs and getting decent accuracy, but thinking maybe lighter would be better at this closer range? Your thoughts please?
Right now I’m using Rem71/2 primers, Lapua brass, 29.5 Varget, 15k off the lands. Thanks!
90 gn Berger BT 26" barrel 500 yards, 31 gn Varget EDIT: 1/8 twist Bartlein.
BTW my first ever match over 300 meters. Happy? Yes, more than happy!
I'll be using this load and gun for the 200/300 yard state championship
