My 20 Vartarg custom

IMG_4594.jpeg

Wanted to drop back in and show some results from this summer at 600yds. Several days this year it flirted with 1” groups but never quite got there. Still pleased as punch with more than 2200 rounds down the barrel. I am sad that Lapua has discontinued the 221 brass because I don’t know that results like this will be possible with reformed brass of lesser quality.

EDIT: I no longer shoot this gun with really hot loads like years ago. I've found no discernible performance advantage between H4198 at 17.6gn and Benchmark at 19.3gn (my preferred loads), both running ~3100fps and the ultra hot loads running 3200+ fps besides a few clicks of elevation. Raw accuracy and grouping has been the same and I have always had to be on my game reading the wind to achieve good results.

Shot at 600 today. It was heavy overcast, humid, and mild wind. The 20 Vartarg blew me away today:

Double checked my Benchmark node from 19.6 up to 19.8, and then tried 3 different seating depths. The purple group is 1.7". Absolutely stunning. 0.35 G1 BC, 3150fps, and it is outshooting my 6.5x47 by a significant margin.
What an amazing little cartridge and rifle! I need to stop reading about this as I fear it will cost me in the very near future! Lol. A great read, thanks.
