Moving backers at 1,000 yards???

Gotta stop with the DQs. It hurts participation. And who cares if a guy puts 8 or 9 in there in light gun? Its not going to get smaller. If a guy loses count and puts 4 on give em a penalty, if they lose count and shoot 7 extras who cares?
why travel 1000-2000 miles to get DQ'd over one missed shot ? IMHO assinine. i choose to travel to shoot, but not to get dq'd..so i miss some. a inch penalty by distance is plenty....6/10 what ever you are still in the game.

No one should be offended, it's just a discussion, and so far some solutions have been made or are being made.....so a useful discussion at that. Who would've known that @Dave Way was such a trouble maker!

Would you like to elaborate on what you think is being done for this problem.

Larry has the backer things, and Tom posted he's trying to get set up with etarget things. The backer thing seems to be an inexpensive way, but possibly should be accompanied with a scorer/assistant scorer, and they could settle it right there at the target boards....maybe? I haven't had first hand experience, and is just my opinion based on this discussion so far.

Far as evolving from whether there IS OR IS NOT 5 on, to DQ vs penalty. I would be in support of a penalty in place of DQ. But I'd suggest make it the size of the target you just missed, not 1 inch or MOA. Once again just my opinion on that, for whatever that's worth.

The backer thing Larry has discussed sounds more equitable for most clubs for sure.

I’m too new and shouldn’t be throwing out opinions, but I agree. If the 1000 yard target is 42” wide, add 22” to my group that is on the paper. I’m already hurt score-wise. Like Dusty said, extra shots can’t make the group smaller, and for scoring, just start counting the lowest values till you get the correct number of shots? Sorry for not staying on topic, but it’s kind of evolved into the other side of it.

Shouldn’t you be working on your tractor?

Decent idea. Would have to train them to deal with that. Then as it involves IBS rulings, we would have to pay the $45 each person for IBS membership so they can make scoring decisions.

Getting a target crew together is not so simple and can be expensive. Same with the scoring and computer people. It is unreasonable to get people to work so hard and not reward them for days of rather hard work and their own transportation and expenses.

Adding more expense when putting on a match is an issue. The few of us that volunteer are paying a lot to work with all the transportation time and sometimes equipment we bring to use. Man I wish it was easy and sure wish I / we could also participate and shoot without distraction. In a perfect world ...

Appreciate the ideas.

You guys are thinking about this wrong. Let competitors shoot as many as they want then take the best 5 or 10.............

Only the lowest 5 are scored, so extra shots cannot be helpful, only harmful. :)
Manatee does a version of that during all the months we have club shoots.

We set up a match where you shoot 6 targets. You get all the targets after each round and at the end, pick your four best to submit. Only doing total score and smallest single groups so we do not have to have a scoring team. That's when I show others how to measure groups and score.

Makes for a good "hands on" training experience for our shooters, no computer involved and shooters seem to like the format.

I bet the folks at Oehler could design a sky-screen just for this purpose that would suffice as a bullet counter. It would need a pretty wide coverage angle. I will contact them.

Dave.
Dave, please let me know what ya find out,

I have had a discussion with Adam, the shotmarkers will work, but they are not 100%, mainly because of the benches being so close and everyone shooting fast. My plan was to only count shots.every range would be different, they could possibly work great at one place and have some troubles at another , im talking benchrest only, f class no problem.
If there was a shroud btween targets would help, but would be a major pain in the ass.

We will know in June, Vapor trail will have 14 to try out, its a test for benchrest, but fclass at a grand at the valley will be fun!

Stanly if you don't have anything to add in the conservation that might help, why speak?
