Most accurate hunting rifle out of the box

This is a somewhat impossible question to answer.
I only own (currently) Remington 700's in high power, some out of the box were excellent some were awful!
From what I've seen this is kinda true of all the various top makers like Remington, Winchester, Savage, etc,. Quality just plain varies a substantial amount because of the price range, parts, assembly, etc,. Except for Mossberg, I don't think they make anything worth having (my opinion).

The worst problem seems to be barrel quality variation from good to really bad!
I don't own one (Tikka) but I have a feeling the reason they have a really good out of the box reputation is because they use the Sako barrels on them.

I have a Kimber LongMaster in .308. I do not shoot factory ammo. However, with handloads, it rivals the accuracy of my competition rifles.. Let me preface this with the idea that this is the FIRST and ONLY Kimber I have ever purchased. It is beautifully made, flawless in function and accurate.

Additionally, it has a "match-grade" chamber (I do not know what that means>>>but it comes with it) it has a hand -lapped button rifled barrel, a COMPLETELY adjustable trigger and it is hand / glass bedded.. Does it get better than that out of the box?

Four years ago I bought a new Kimber Model 84 in .308. It has been returned to the factory 3 times. First, the pillar bedded action screws were off a tad and it was difficult to get the threads to start. Kimber returned it with a new (beautifully figured) stock with straight pillars. Next, my gunsmith bore scoped it and found a burr in the bore. Returned it again, new barrel installed. Then after it was bore sighted and shot in, I put three rounds in the magazine, fired one shot and the magazine box opened, remaining shells went on the ground. Kimber fixed that also. It is not accurate and blues badly., I paid $1200 for this POS.

To answer the OP's question - buy a Tikka and get a good rifle.

I am very sorry tenring for the pile of junk you received. Mine, on the other hand, is flawless in every detail, and it is very accurate. I did not buy this rifle because I needed another "carry rifle".. I bought it because it is the most beautiful rifle I have ever laid eyes on>>>>and it is as accurate as it is beautiful... But I am sorry for your misfortune with a rifle of that cost.. Fortunately, mine is worth every penny..

As for regular factory gun, my best is a Winchester model 70 heavy varmint in 22-250, shot factory ammo into 1/2 " with reloads it shot one hole into the .1s bought this gun in the early 90's don't know what they are like now. Have seen savages shoot really well and had one that shot for shit. Suspect it is a bedding problem with laminate stock but don't know.

I just bought a Nesika long range rifle in 7mm rem mag and I love it! Not cheap it is upthere with custom rifles, retails for 3400 I paid 2600. Nesika action, douglas air gauge barrel, timney trigger ,bell and Carlson stock. Shoots in .25" all day and never changes Zero! First deer taken this year a doe at 250 she dropped like lightning struck her.

Stosh

Just shot my 2nd deer with new Nesika, this one was at 300yds dropped her like lightning struck her!

If a single shot falling block appeals to you, I believe a Winchester or Browning 1885 is a fine choice. Both of mine are great shooters. Sub moa 5 shot groups with decent factory ammo are the norm. Mine are in varmint calibers, I'm not sure it would be quite that easy with a 30-06.

As far as I know, two mass produced sub $700 or even $500 dollar bolt guns come out of the box with a Sub MOA 3-shot guarantee, TC Venture and Tikka. That may mean something.

My 20yr old Tikka 300WM still shoots great, and the trigger + action are smooth as silk. Operation and feeding better than many customs. All the Savages I've bought are very accurate but take a bit of work to get the action smooth.

I just sighted in a new Thompson Center Venture Predator in .308 for a buddy.

Windy as all hell, and the rifle put 5 in a 3/4" with factory box ammo.

Very impressed, this has the camo plastic stock and all.

Great looking and light weight - an excellent rifle for the money.

Gday,
Well for me my tikka t3 laminated stocked 270win is the best bang for ya buck out of the box rifle I own
bothe rems 5r and SFII have been bedded new triggers also an A7 sako can not out shoot that 270 tikka
this rifle has opened some target shooters eyes wide open.

Cheers Trev

I would say Tikka. I bought one in a 6.5x55. one trip to range, several different loads and all were under an inch. I didn't bed it, only lightened the trigger. have a browning x-bolt in same caliber, shoots great too. I am looking at several tikkas as they make some calibers I love. actions are amazing.

Anyone have experience with the Browning rifle with factory tuner? I recall that it has won several competitions for "factory" rifles.

YES SIR THE OLDER BROWNING WITH THE BOSS SYSTEMS SHOT VERY WELL IN 7MM THAT I HAD IN MY SHOP BUT IT STILL DONT SHOOT LIKE THE SAVAGE LONG RANGE HUNTER DOES !!!!!

Thanks for the reply. Since the target rifle bug bit me; I've been out of touch with factory offerings and am following this thread trying to catch up.

Out of several Sako's, Savage Factory F Class, Remington Model 7 and 700's in various calibers, I have had 1 moa or less from all three makers.

The most accurate was a Remmy 700 AAC-SD in 308.

It also fouls the fastest. The Savage and Sako's are 3/4 moa average with quite a few 1/2 or less five shot groups. But over all they were 3/4.

The R700 in 308 has shot some amazing groups but it is in a benchrest style stock.

I'll give Savage my vote, Accu Trigger, Good hand loading, Scope and Bases, wont break your wallet, and gives great out of the box service for years.
