Most accurate hunting rifle out of the box

I think this is a good time for a picture. I shot this group sighting in my brand new Remmington 700 5R 10th Anniversary. It was my last 5 shot group shot at 50 yards during sight in. This is the group that lit the fire for me, and started my "hobby" of accurate shooting. I remember thinking " this isn't that hard". How naive I was. That was 4 years and twenty grand ago.

This target was a week later, at 100 on the Bridgeville, De. Range, in 15-20 mph winds. Good vertical but the wind got me. We moved to shooting 2X2 in. Tiles at 300. I think I hit 70% first shot after getting dialed in. The wind had died.

This is a month ago, testing some mag length LC brass loads for "mass produced plinking loads". No brass sorting. Just resized machine gun brass. Blemished Hornady 168s.

Yea but if I could only back it all up in a match. I always seem to have a Friday's gun shooting in a match on Saturdays. If ya catch my drift?

Hey Stacy. Don't mistake my meaning, please. I like any gun that shoots. Period. I don't care what brand it is. On the subject of Savage, I have a lot of respect for Savage. A friend bought one of their 20 gage slug guns and some sabot rounds. He outshot my $1500 M1A with it. I can only speak from my experiences. I figure I got very lucky with the Remmy I got.

I see expensive rifles shoot the same as $325 specials with the same factory ammo.. If I was to buy strictly factory out of the box without upgrades, I would want a Kimber....

i have had a few kimbers, won't buy another one!
my buddy and i bought a pair of 300wsm 84's or 8400's whatever the model, i do not recall.
neither one would shoot better than 1.5" 5 shots at 100 yards. i ran several different bullets, 2 different primers, 2 or 3 different powders, varied seating depth, and obviously charges, we finally sold them both. during that time i wondered if it was just me, but i did some research and found that i was far from the only one that could not get them to shoot.
i bought a cz model 3 to replace the kimber, it shot ALL seven different loads into a better group than the kimber would do with any one load!
i do have a kimber 243 that shoots well.

but, i really like my coopers. nice fit, nice finish, nice wood, overall a nicely crafted item. and all of them shoot well.

Buy a Tikka and be confident if the animal doesn't fall, its your fault. I have two and both are .5 MOA out of the box and not finiky about the ammunition you put in them.

Tikka. They have a Sako trigger which is very crisp and easy to adjust to 2# or so, the barrels are also Sako. I have owned Tikkas for over 20 years in various calibers and all shot well under an inch for 5 shot groups at 100 yds. My brother bought a pair of T-3's, one in 308 and the other in 243, the 243 is an honest 1/2" rifle with minimal load development. We were fine tuning the 308 for elk season and he shot a sub-one inch 10 shot group at 100. Now this is with a lightweight hunting rifle with a 6X Leupold on it. What more could one want from a $500 rifle.

I'd throw my hat in the Tikka ring as well. Picked up a stainless/laminate T3 in 30-06, mounted a Zeiss Conquest on it with factory Tikka rings, bore sighted and off to the range with some loads I'd worked up for an old Rem 742. Light loads with Varget and 150 Sierras...not much more than enough to cycle the 742 and be real comfortable for my teenager to shoot. :) First three down the barrel (brand spankin' new) printed .634...with what I believe to be a woefully inadequate load for the rifle. Let the barrel cool...made scope adjustments, and the next three printed .714. Still have the ladder test loads on the bench that I built for the new Tikka....just haven't found the motivation to put in the range time...it's hunting season, and I know it will do what I need it to do. After hunting season, however, I'll get to work. Hoping it's a .5 rifle.
