man i really would like to do this. I've never shot a match but I would really like too. Only problem is my rifle will be built the week before and only leave me a week to tune it. Trevor where are you at in IA? Its only about 3 hours from me.

I'm just SW of Iowa City. If you're thinking about sharing a ride/room or something like that I'd be interested. Shoot me a PM.

sounds about right...gotta love Minnesota

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

A little bump for the wind clinic. If anyone is remotely interested in f-class shooting and how wind relates to long range shooting and ballistics.....GO, you'll have a great time, learn a thing or two and meet some great folks! For fellow "Team Lefse" members; Unfortunately I have a PDX-BOI trip that weekend that I haven't been able to trip-trade so it saddens me to have to let you guys eat all that lefse without me!! Rod; send me a pm and I'll mail that scope cover to you and I will see you guys up in GFK on the 18th!! Eric in DL

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

Keep working at finding someone Eric...it would be good to have you here. I asked Rod the other day if he had heard from you yet about making it down. You are welcome to stay at my place if it works for you. We better get a change in the weather soon or we will be laying in the snow to shoot. >:(

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

I am not an F-class shooter (I compete with a sling instead) but I will comment that Scott is doing a heck of a job in MN and surrounding states to grow this sport. The guys who have helped coach the last few years- Ricky Hunt, Ia and Steve Knutson MN are both excellent coaches and you will certainly take many tidbits of knowledge with you when you leave.

Great place to ask questions in a non-match type classroom environment.

Elk River is a very nice range that can be quite tricky at times, all good things to healp in the learning process.

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

Thanks for the kind words Morgen,
Just a reminder, this is a F-class and MRP match. Slings shooters are always welcome to attend the clinic and the matches. The more the merrier. We have a full compliment of about 30 F-class and MR 600 yard targets that will be ready to go.

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

starting to get psyched about the clinic and match! Now I need the snow to melt so I can actually get to the range and get load development done

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

Im getting pumped up too. Im waiting on 2 rifles and 3 barrels to get finished up so i can start doing load workup. I may end up testing loads on the line at Elk River this year. The snow is still 6 feet deep to get to may local range......

I think it's only like 3-4 at mine...but that's still a little too much to wade through

Trevor, you won't be the only newbie...I have exactly one match under my belt...still learning here too

I hope I can get my reloading room done in time to be able to load up some ammo and get some shooting done in time to be able to justify coming to this. I think it would be a good time and I'm sure I would learn a lot as I've never shot any long range stuff as of yet. I've got my rifle completely put together now and a case for it, now I just need to actually shoot it!

We're in the same position...I'm waiting for the weather to warm up so I don't have to tramp through 3 feet of snow to retrieve targets. Got just over 4 weeks to get ready...should be ok

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

Time is getting short for the first match of the year. I am heading out to plow the firing line clear of snow today. Have no fear, we will shoot!

looks good!

heading to the range tomorrow to get the new brass/powder/bullet combo figured out some. Just over 3 weeks to go

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

I did finally get my reloading bench done and should have my first 50-100 rounds loaded for testing done by this weekend and the weather even looks like it will finally cooperate to get out to shoot on Saturday. I just might be able to seriously consider coming to this. How soon does one have to commit to this to secure a spot?

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

Trevor,

No, you are now required to attend, this is your chance to get experience that you wont get again this yr. The clinic is part classroom and part practice to apply what you just learned in a learning environment. The following day is then a real match that you will have confidence to shoot in, because of the previous day.
These guys at ERSC are just humble scandihoovians like the rest of us, and they really do a great job of welcoming you. Rumormill is Effendude will being do lutefisk on the grill, just to pay homage to the Norsk warrior spirits that will be guiding us...

Seriously, time to pop your cherry and I got granola bars for the pits...

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

Rod,

I guess I'll just have to use this as motivation to get all my ducks in a row and come on up to this event. I have the rifle built, the loading bench up and running now I just need to find just the right load for her and get a few hundred rounds of practice in.

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

Trevor, come on up. I promise you a good time. Don't be scared by Rod, he will be the only one eating grilled lutefisk. ;D

I plowed off the firing line last night. The sun should have it down to grass today. Most years, we have the underground sprinklers going on the firing lines by now. There is still 2-3' of snow in the parking lot at 600. Uff da!

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

Could I get some information on camping? Are there going to be others camping over? Any power hook ups?
Thanks

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

Hi everyone. I just read this thread. Have I missed the wind clinic, I would like to attend? I have never participated in any shooting matches and would like to do some F class's this year. I live in moorhead, MN and I was wondering if there is a web site I can go to that has a schedule for minnesota and/or north dakota f class matches? Thanks,Andy

Re: Minnesota Wind Clinic and Spring Match

You can go to ersportsman.com for all the info on our F Class matches at the Elk River Sportmans Club. We shoot every Monday night and this year all the 600 yard nights will be NRA approved matches so you can get yourself classified. There are some other shooters that come from your area that shoot with us sometimes you could hook up with them for a ride. Should be a piece of cakes. Just make sure you stay with the guys on this side of the border. some of those ND guys can be trouble:}
