Mineral spirits

Why do stock finishers and re-finishers recommend not using "odorless mineral spirits". I've looked in the big box stores and two paint stores and can't find any that is not marked "odorless"~!

Odorless or not, mineral spirits is slow to evaporate and can leave an oily film behind that can mess up future finishes.

Agreed, and I don’t use “paint stripper” liquids either as they can soak into the wood.

Not to hijack the thread, but what is your preferred method of stripping a stock?

Paint thinner labeled is the old mineral spirits. I have never had an issue cleaning wood with it.

120 grit sand paper on a good palm sander to get to raw wood, then go to 600.
Hand sand to 1000 with the grain.
