I've got several new, carefully researched, latest-and-greatest, improved, special purpose firearms cleaning products that were all scientifically developed for use to do everything from general firearms cleaning to disolving through carbon and stripping copper. Most are water-based, and proud of it. Another thing they have in common is that they're in a box in my cellar right next to a growing collection of other firearms stuff that I'll never use. Virtually every time I try a new cleaning product, it ends up with me fetching my can of Ballistol and starting over. Can anyone recommend something better than Ballistol for...anything? It was developed before WWI, and I'm thinking there's got to be something better. If not, I'm good. If so, I sure would like to know.

However, reading the instructions for that product at http://www.eezox.com/gun-care.html, it says:
**PLEASE READ THESE DIRECTIONS BEFORE USING**
NOTE: EEZOX® is not harmful to ORIGINAL factory wood finishes. If product comes into contact with rubber grips, wipe until dry.
Most of the firearms I want to store are pistols with "rubber" ???? grips and an AR15 (not sure what the grips are made of, but it's sure not wood) that comes in and out of use. Finishing second or third in the test is BreakFree CLP "old" and "new". I recently purchased some Break-Free for short-term barrel treatment, but now I see that there is a Break-Free Collector Long Term Gun Storage Preservative Gun Oil, which was "Developed for military use to protect weapons for up to 5 years in storage". And of course there is Corrosion-X, which really does seem to come in second place to rubber eating EEZOX.
One thing I learned from reading Accurate Shooter.com gear reviews is that I need to get some firearms storage bags (as if they're all the same), and I should pick up some clay desiccant. But what about the preservatives? I'd like to short all of this to ground and find out what works in the real world. I'd really appreciate your thoughts.
