MidwayUSA Pricing Concerns

It’s called bait and switch and has been going on forever
They sold the OP the product at the listed price. No bait and switch. Next day the price had gone up. I’m going to go out on a limb and say Midway would have sold the OP more product at the new price the next day. I’m also going to guess again and say if the product doesn’t move at the new price Midway will put it back on clearance at a new lower price. You can certainly tell who’s an hourly flunky and who’s run a business.

I remember a couple of Panics ago when MidwayUSA was the shooting sports' friend as they kept their prices reasonable and didn't scalp prices. That fairytale is no more. I appreciate running a business and fundamental economics and different cost structure of a mom&pop versus a megastore. They aren't doing anything out of the ordinary for a normal business. There was a time where it felt like they were more a member or the shooting community and not just a business

Larry is getting older and must be thinking about retiring somewhere warmer, like in Hawaii. There aren't any shooting sport fans there so he's not worried about being reminded of his price gouging. There are other vendors, such as Midsouth Shooting Supply or Graf&Sons who are now my first place to look and buy.

Wow

Why does a thread exist about a company's pricing? Do we have so little to discuss? I often feel alone, but I let my wallet do the talking. If everyone did that, you might see things change. I hear people rant about high vehicle prices, but they seem to keep buying them. Somebody's buying from Midway (I haven't for years because their prices never were great), or they couldn't keep the doors open. So, whoever is doing their marketing is probably targeting the 5 million new gun owners (https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/five-million-americans-became-first-time-gun-owners-in-2020/) who don't know anything. Inflation may be part of it, but Midway has never had the best prices no matter how far you go back.

I spell Midway like this M-i-d-s-o-u-t-h and they also aren't the cheapest, but the service is good.

the company’s that don’t keep up with pricing with the high inflation the market is experiencing are going to get hurt. When someone like Midway doesn’t raise prices on current inventory to reflect what replacement inventory will cost they will find themselves at the bank borrowing money at high interest to buy inventory. If a company does that a couple of turns they’re out of business. If prices in the market fall while they’re holding borrowed money inventory they’re likely to get put out of business with the margin online retail supports.

I bought some clearance bullets about 2 weeks ago. Was a good deal. 2 different brands/types. The day after i ordered i check back , was going to order more. Both were still in stock on clearance but after my order pricing had changed. One went up by over $10 a box aand the other by $5.
Are they adoping amazons algorythem pricing?

Yeah but I’ve also seen the pricing go the other way with clearance optics. They were clearing out some Trijicon scopes and I bought when they had 3 left of the model I wanted. Now there were two scopes and the price dropped over $100. Checked back a couple weeks later and they only had 1 left but price was down about $300 less than what I paid. I still got a really great deal on my scope at the price I paid but did notice that and found it interesting
