Midway Eliminating 5K Primer Lots?

I received a whole bunch of email notifications from Midway today, each relating to 5K lots of primers. For each brand and type, their message read "You requested we notify you when this product was back in-stock; unfortunately the product has been discontinued and will no longer be available from MidwayUSA." I'm sure many of you got the same messages.

Since this involved multiple brands, I'm guessing this decision to stop selling 5K primer lots was made by Midway, rather than the manufacturers. (Had the manufacturers gotten together and jointly decided to kill off 5K lots they would probably have run afoul of anti-trust laws).

I've bought a ton of stuff from Midway over the years. But their current policy of limiting primer purchases to 1K per type, per customer, per week - making it impossible to spread out hazmat and shipping charges across a larger purchase - sure makes them a rather sketchy proposition when it comes to primers!

I think the move is a good one to get more primers into more peoples hands.
How long does it take the ave. shooter to go threw 5000 primers....
Years.
Not to many people need 10,000 - 20,000 primers, yet I hear many people on other forums bragging about
how many they have.

Likely removed because they have no timeline to actually have them in stock, and the websites are being bombarded with bots checking inventory. It's expensive just to have a page that says "out of stock" with 1000's of people are refreshing the page every 5 seconds

Maybe it takes you years to go through 5k worth of primers but others not so much.
The only thing this does is increase the hazmat fee costs.

Got the same notice late last night. I've seen both Midway and Sinclair discontinue products for one reason or another. I stopped using Midway years ago. They nailed me twice for hazmat shipping for 2, 1 lb cans of powder I had on the same order.

I average 2-3k per year and in my circle I don't shoot that much.

well guys I got the same notices as you did. I am about finished with Larry Gougerfield and Midway. It seems they are going the same way as Cabelas and Bass Pro. Just glad we still have other outlets like Powder Valley and Creedmore Sports to turn to. Too many businesses are about nothing but profit and "screw the customer,we just want their money." 20% increase from the manufacturer equals 50% increase at Midway? I don't plan to buy from them if I can get it elsewhere.

It's not that I'm not concerned about the "average shooter" but in my case 5K will last less than 2 years, so I guess I have to be selfish and look at this, if true, from my perspective. No apology for that.

I agree with the vast majority of comments in this post and prices increasing nearly 100% are not justified. But the problem is not Larry. He stepped down in February of this year and was replaced by Matt Fleming who is now CEO and president of the company. He comes from a marketing and sales standpoint.

Well, who hired the guy? Larry is still listed as CEO and flounder on the website. Old Lar wasn't exactly the firearm technical guy he professed to be- he was marketing oriented. I think Larry should use his free time to actually learn the gunsmithing trade and stop doing "how to" videos until he knows what he's talking about.
