Marlin 2000L rear sights, what fits it?

I picked up a really nice Marlin 2000L .22LR at a really good price for my daughter. It has a front globe site still attached but no rear peep sight. I am not an open sites guy and haven't got a clue about Williams or Lyman or any other rear sight like them. But I would like to put a functional rear peep site on it and I haven't got a clue what might fit it. I don't want a big dollar Anschultz or the like, just some thing cheap. Is anybody out there familiar with a sight that may work? Are the fairly universal? Any help or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I believe these came with Williams sights originally although certain Lyman sights will fit the mount. Check with Brownells for a Lyman MJT which should allow you to shoot within the rifle's capabilities. Another good addition would be a Merit adjustable rear aperture, works wonders in changing light conditions. Good luck,

If it's the same sight that fits the 81DL, I think it's a Lyman, has kind of a half wheel with a slot on it to adjust the height, the screw that holds the sight to the mount is threaded to hold a second sight on the side, not sure of the model number, do a search on Bing, I came up with a whole lot of pictures of Lyman sights, maybe you'll get lucky and find the correct sight. Try rimfirecentral also, some knowledgeable Marlin guys over there.
It has a lever to lock the sight adjustment.

Just went and looked at mine - of course there is no manufacturer's marking on the sight. It does, however, look suspiciously like a Lyman 90 MJT, including the quick release button for the slide and the elevation stop screw for elevation return to zero. Assuming your 2000 still has the mounting block on the reciever, the 90 MJT should be fine, otherwise you'll have to measure the reciever diameter and get the correct block at the same time.

Thanks guys. I'll start looking at the models you mentioned. The mounting block is missing from the action so I guess I;ll have to start there.
