A loading table...yeah, I don't think you'll be getting a patient on a table.

Why do you need a partner?

Some extra capital (few thou) would help get this going*. Maybe also some marketing help - like I've said, I've tried approaching outfits like Lyman, Hornady, Redding, etc. but seems I just get the "cold shoulder". Actually, in the past, Lyman advertised a bench that featured construction designs I originated.

*Also I'm no "spring chicken" anymore!

In any case, it will get marketed soon, just takes some time - esp. working alone with little $$.

I think tables are passe, think big, like inventing a new style target.

Man up,
Go to the bank, take a little money out as a second mortgage on your house. If this is the revolutionary product you think it is, don't share your success with anyone!

Second thought. Save a few of those credit cards that come in the mail weekly. Then, fund your venture using those credit cards. You can pay them back easily when youi are rolling in the $$$$.

Worst advise ever! Tongue-in-cheek advise I suppose.

Do not go into debt as it is the worst thing you can do when you are in business, especially starting out with an unproven product. As you start selling your benches, you can fund the business. If they don't sell, then you know it didn't work and move on but you are not up to your eyeballs in debt.

Don't own a house/would if I could buy one - no $$ for DP. Poor credit - no cards!

Re: Marketing help/advice

Sounds like all you really need is a few venture capital guy's willing to invest in your future. If you think about it 47% of the country believe in you already.
What do you think you'll need for start up cost? Do you have a business plan? To me it's a no brainier, it's a perfect investment opportunity for someone.
You said, your a older person with no equity, no savings, bad credit and willing to share your great idea, what do you have to lose... go for it!

Start up costs are minimal - I can rent some aditional shop space to make the kits in for no more than $500 a month incl. utilities (might need $1000 to get in it). But more I need help with marketing - a nice opening order for couple dozen (or more) kits would be nice.

I have plans to expand operations into other products as well.

Did you give up on your tile targets? Sell some of those to fund your wood benches.

I wish you luck with your endeavor, but, poor credit and no equity = high risk!

Look again - I never said I have no equity - in fact I've got quite a lot of $$ and time tied up in this project already.

I will do this with or without help - just thought I'd offer someone an opportunity to help launch a new product and make $$ in the process.

Tile targets... now that sounds very interesting, everyone uses targets!

Re: Marketing help/advice

Have you projected a percentage for profit? Will your profit cover your overhead? Have you considered the number of employees and comp insurance? With poor credit, how will you obtain the hardwood from a distributor, and the equipment you'll need?

There is a great deal to think about, when trying to repay an investor, and, make a profit. Talk to Shiraz at bullets.com and ask him how many benches he sells per year!

Come on Erik, you know that wasn't the worst advice ever posted on this forum!

My point was if he really believes this product is a winner, he will find a way to make it happen. Venture capital guys are ruthless, especially so for untested products. Most won't even bother with such a small venture. Banks are even worse for lending money to start-ups. $1000 in CC debt would allow him to test the market, get some product out there and sell it. If it is a great product, that small debt would easily be absorbed as the business grows. If the product doesn't sell, the $1000 might be a painful lesson but it is still manageable debt for nearly everyone. Many cottage/garage businesses start this way. Some actually do well.

Re: Marketing help/advice

You're absolutely right Scott!

How about these GEEKS:

Steve Jobs & Steve Wozniak, Bill Hewlett & Dave Packard, Walt Disney, Paul Allen & Bill Gates.
All started in a garage 8)

Re: Marketing help/advice

My advise: Create your product in two levels of finish. One would be the "plain Jane " model in beech, maple or oak for the top or whatever hardwood you have economical access to. The other would be for those who have $$$. The top could be of Cocobolo, Indian Rosewood, Bubinga or some other exotic hardwood with polished brass hardware. I think you will be surprised at how many folks will opt for the latter. Most folks will pay a premium price for a premium product.
