How not to set up your posting . . . .

Honker, probably didn't mean it the way it came across. However he did bring it upon himself.

I do agree with people being civil and professional, but like (Honker) noticed himself. A lot of the guys have got to know one another pretty well on this site. So yes as anyone will once they get comfortable in or around a group... everybody will lossen up and start to cut up a bit. As well make friendly stabs at one another. I have only seen a couple of guys ever really use a lot of bad language on here, and I haven't seen them post anything in a very long time!

"By the way, reticule is a womans purse."

Yeah but you have no idea how many of the old time gun writers made that error. ;D

I'm relatively new to the sire but have been participting in various forums for about 7 years now, give or take a month. I've only been banned from one and they guy that owned the site was so critical of everything that it went defunct when everone just up and left. Couldn't have happened to a nicer despot. ;D
I will generally try and be respectful of other posters comments unless I know that what they say is either wrong or dangerous. Then I will as respectflly as possible try to correct them, usually using a source for reference. I do have a fairly large firearms library, have been a commercial custom handloader, worked for a bullet casting company and apprencticed to a gunsmith for a couple of years before he upped and died on me. That doesn't mean I know it all. Far from it. But I do have the resouces to answer questions. If I don't know and can't find it, I'm not ashamed to say, "I don't know."
Some of the sites I go to use a lot of cuss words, sometimes mispelled to keep the auto-censor from bleeping the word out but I take it with a grain of salt . Sometimes it's separating the wheat from the chaff and it's either live with it or leave.
What I'm trying to say is if I'm treated civily, then I will be civil. If not, I can get pretty nasty and rarely use a cuss word.

I don't agree with all of Honkers points but I don't believe he deserved the absolutely hostile responses from a lot of you. He certainly has a right to his opinion without being attacked.

As someone who had a whole thread deleted for dropping the "F" bomb I'm not real sensitive to the language issue but I try to remember that my granddaughter occasionally reads this stuff so I usually don't use any words I wouldn't say in front of her.

I've been a member here for quite a long time and the nature of the site has changed a lot over the years. When it was young it had pretty much a technical interchange focus. As it has grown it's become more of a social network. Many of the folks who are true experts in the field and provided valuable advice and guidance don't come around anymore. A couple of them have told me it's become too difficult to find any substance under all the fluff and there's always a self-proclaimed expert that wants to argue.

One thing that I find extremely irritating is members hijacking a thread about a topic of general interest and it gets turned into either a pissing contest about something unrelated or a bunch of good ole boys tellin' yarns. I think Paul would have plenty of funding for the site if users were charged $1 every time they used the phrase "a quarter inch all day long".

Regarding the title of a new post I think Honker makes a good point. In the main sections of the site if there a new post that's just an expletive I'm sure not going to look at it. In the classifieds when someone uses the title "4sail" and nothing else, I've got better things to do.

There is still valuable information here but it's getting harder and harder to find. It also used to be if you read something here you could take it to the bank. Any more I see a lot of wildly inaccurate information posted and never questioned. If it's not a safety issue I just ignore it. They'll eventually figure it out for themselves... or not.

And I'll readily admit there are posts where the spelling and grammar is so terrible I have no idea what they're trying to say. I don't spend much time on them. And these are folks from the good old USA not Iceland or Norway. Are people aware that if you use Firefox it does the spellcheck for you as you type? By the way, reticule is a womans purse.

One more thing that I find really irritating is people who read the original post, skip over three pages of responses and then give an incorrect answer to the original question. Lovely.

Thank you to this gentleman and a few others who tried to rein in the very hostile replies.

I still think that some simple courtesy and some focus on shooting would benefit the site.

Some have said I have only posted a few times. On other shooting sites, I have posted hundreds of times. This site is fairly new for me.

I have visited one or two shooting-related sites that have gone so far out of bounds that members even dare to post photos of half nude women as a kind of "joke." This is what happens when the focus shifts away from shooting questions and goes over to "entertainment above anything" and jokes that are even placed before shooting issues.

Some of the attacks on me seem to be from what we could call the "bib overalls group."

There's some pretty rough stuff in this thread. Some fellows struggle to be coarse as they possibly can, but to just barely steer clear of the limit where they will be cut off. Given what the moderator seems to permit, they are on pretty safe ground.

I very much appreciate a number of folks who have recognized I was just discussing some ideas in a polite way. Even when they don't agree, they at least recognize that I was just putting up some ideas.

For those who are just average guys like me, do you really want the "heroes' on your site to be the "bib-overalls group?" With the rusty pick-up trucks and a couple of mongrel dogs riding around in the back?

Because I have seen my share of that.

I want to thank those who tried to at least discuss my ideas without going into personal attacks.

I hope to continue to visit the site. Let's hope the focus remains on guns and shooting questions, and not domination by "joke experts" and a carnival of personal vituperation.

Don't you get a feeling that at least a few of the more "over the wall" posters may be logging on late at night, after half a dozen good snorts under their belt?

Best to all---

Thanks--

Honker

canada honker......
hope you don't take this too personal and do continue on this forum.... just eat a little humble pie and grin and bare it .... nobody is going to hold a grudge.....
a few day ago i jumped in with both feet and started a rant about border patrol and paint guns and then someone sent me a one liner that said check the date of the article.... april first......
my face was pretty red...... you have to laugh at yourself and then get on with life....
remember don't sweat the small stuff..... it is all small stuff

My truck aint rusty, and I paid a lot of money for my Texas Blue Lacy that rides in it with me in the front seat...
You sure have a funny way of discussing stuff...

C Honker,
I am glad you came back out, I wear bibs and own a pasture full of pickup trucks and have almost enough dogs to fill one of them (8) I have wore the bibs all my life and would think it almost unmanly to drive a car, short boxes, low riders, and cars are for city folk and women but I take absolutely no offense, as a matter of a fact I am proud of being country folk ;) I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the greatest forum on the web, Welcome to 6br Canada Honker I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Wayne.
I have tried to post this for five minutes but people are posting in droves, you are a very popular man. :D
Wayne.

Honker, Do you really think this way? Do you really think that if someone wears bib overalls, Their not worth your time or beneath you? Do you think Just because someone has a rusty pickup they don't have any knowledge that you don't already have?

Hope you don't really feel this way, and you only made those comments out of anger from things that have been said to you? I hope you don't feel this way about everyone you see in Bib overalls, or driving a rusty pick up? Are you saying you would rather be stranded in the cold or starve from hunger than recieve help from someone in Bib overalls, and driving a rusty pick up? I'm not being a smarty pants here either! I sincerely would like you to answer these questions. Not in a post to anyone that has posted on this thread, Including myself! Ask yourself these questions then answer them to yourself! Are you really this type of person?

You say you have hundreads of post on other site's. I as well have been on other sites. I'm on this site most of all because.
1. Most are down to earth guy's that will answer your questions. Even the dumb ones!
2. Some like to just chat about their own experinces. Witch I have gain a lot of knowledge from.
3. Using (Alf), and (Preacher) as a example. Both have some dandy rifles, pistols, and share many photo's with the rest of us! Witch I for one get many idea's from, or just enjoy veiwing such nice quality peaces of art!
4. Most here are just good people and will help any shooter willing to learn.

Can you show any threads with some really nasty talk in it? Can you show a thread where someone is using language worse the word Damn or Shit? I can only think of one thread posted a while back that had pics of a very attractive lady in it, But she was fully clothed! And was doing a great job at shooting. Even the two words listed above are not used much here! I don't see how you can think that this site is such a bad site? WOW! Do you really think, and feel this way?

Mark

I started out on this forum. I asked questions that were extremely basic and no one had any problems walking me threw my problems. I would like to thank every one that helped me out.

I have been on other forums about different things and they were full of garbage info. You have to spend days reading to find out what you wanted. When I joined here I just figured that gun type people were just older and more mature.

Well I just joined the Canadian Gun Nuts forum. If you are complaining about this forum you must have never been on many other forums.

When you read a thread about some ones question you have to read threw 16 pages and you have about 1 page of useful info.

I think its just the time of year. Eveey ones getting excited to go shooting!

You mean that you think less of me because I show up at matches in my 1994 crown vic matchmobile or (gulp) a minivan!!!!

I am deeply hurt!!!!! :(

OK...I'M ALL BETTER NOW....LETS GO SHOOTIN!! ;D

Some of the best shooter I know in my area are hard working biboverall wearing truck driving good ole country boys that may not have the pretty truck or the prettiest gun but they shoot lights out all day long! I'm proud to be a truck driving hard working country boy! My guns aren't very pretty either but id take an ugly gun that shoots than a fancy pretty gun that ain't worth spit! Its ashame you post how people should do this and say that in there forums yet you do the same and try to belittle how the "heros" on this thread should be!!

4xforfun,
I would be proud to have you show up in a GULP,.... mini van
and sit beside me and shoot a match :D now if you showed up in spandex with a man purse attached to your side on a bicycle :o My liberalism sensors would be going off and I would probably have to draw the line. Now if you cut the back off the mini van with a cutting torch and had a old hound dog ridding in there with you I would REALLY be proud to shoot with you ;)
Wayne.
