Love for the 308

Saw a picture the other day of our Ukrainian Brothers receiving several cases of 700's with Vortex GE scopes , and you couldn't have wiped off the grins with a Ball Bat . Several cases of Berger 185 Factory Juggs , too . Wonder how those Bergers got there ? Must be a mistake . LOL !
Would like to see those pictures…….

At one time I had 10 M1As, 3 Don McCoy's M1 in 308. Now down to 4 on the former and one on the latter

Still love the platform, just can't shoot anymore due to health reasons.

Here is the last time I shot the #1 gun, a double lugged M1A at 600 in a 25mph + gusting wind in Palo Alto, LA. That was 2012. The 308 can hold its own in the wind against the little black gun.

Here is the first and the last time I shot it at 1000 yards on 18x24 steel plate. Wind wasn't bad though.

If I were to keep one 308 rifle, it would be my hunter with all GI metal parts. I spun up the barrel from an Obermeyer blank, Navy SSR mount, NXS 2.5x10, and Surefire FA762SS. Bedded in a forearm reinforced GI fiberglass stock. To keep gas blast away, a blank firing shield is utilized. The gas plug is bored out and vented to cut down the gas impulse to the op rod. The rifle shoots true 1 minute using M118 LRs. Plenty good for anything I want do with a 308.

Trying to decide if I should rebarrel my factory howa 308 or move to 6.5 with this particular gun.
I have lots of 308 components though... may have to rebarrel in 308 and build another 6.5.

Would be a creedmoor. I have lots of .308 stuff though, gun just needs a better, heavier barrel. This would require having the smith hog out the stock and probably upgrade the bottom medal. I know I should just do it.

Dusted off the .308 hard to argue about its accuracy barrel life and smooth shooting not picky about what it will shoot. 150 yards prone shooting well under half moa with solids and shooting easily around or under moa off hand sitting. 3 shot group prone 150 yards middle 5 shots 150 yards sitting off hand. Top 5 shots 100 yards sitting offhand.
