LOOKING FOR THE BEST GUNSMITH

O K GUYS, GIVE ME SOME INFO HERE AND TELL ME WHO WOULD BUILD YOUR NEXT MATCH OR ANY TYPE OF ACCURATE RIFLE. I AM LOOKING TO HAVE A 6.5 X 47 BUILT AS SOON AS I CAN FIND THE RIGHT BUILDER. I PLAN TO USE THE BEST COMPONENTS AVAILABLE AND I AM OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS. THANKS, FOR ANY INFO IN ADVANCE.

THANKS JON FOR YOUR REPLY. I WOULD LIKE TO ACTUALLY HEAR SOME REMARKS AND MAYBE EVEN SOME STORIES ABOUT INDIVIDUAL BUILDS FROM FORUM MEMBERS. I'M NOT LOOKING TO START ANY KIND OF BASHING OR NAME CALLING GAME. JUST THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GOOD TO HEAR SOME SUCCESS STORIES FROM RIFLE OWNERS AND/OR BUILDERS AS FAR AS THAT GOES.

I use Bob Green in York Pa. Bob does top notch work, he'll work with you to assure you get exactly what you want. His prices are more than reasonable, and the best part, which is a biggie, when he gives you a time frame you'll get your rifle on or before the date he promised (which is more than I can say for a lot of the so called top smiths out there).

There are numerous top notch gunsmith around the country. If it were me I would start by looking at the guys that are within driving distance to my home. Tell us where you live and specifically what type of rifle you want and its end use. Do you already have these top components or are you looking for someone to provide these for you? What's your budget for this project? How soon do you want it?

+1 for Bob Green. He has great customer service and very fair prices. I have heard nothing but good about him from many others that have sent him their guns. Here is his web site www.greensrifles.com

Clay Spencer.......He built my first true LR hunting rig. He built my first 1000 yard match gun...1st year....3rd in IBS SOY points...Rookie of the year....14th overall at the nats. Second year 5th over all at the nats. New HG by him this year...5th in HG at the IBS nats.

Simply one of the best.

There's a guy in either Casper or Glenrock who I have heard is very good.. Can't recall the name though. There's also a guy in Rock Springs, first name is Vern, Don't know if he is still smithing as he is like 80 and his apprentice is like 68..

Since you are so close to Denver I'd search that area out as well

+ 1 for Bob Green , Great prices ,good turn around time and very helpfull even after your rifle is done. This man goes the extra mile to see how your shooting and to help you if your trying to find the right load and get the gun set up to shoot. He built me a 6.5x47and its a great shooter and he helped me with a 308 . great guy to deal with.......

John Pierce, Pierce Engineering! He is on the "top smiths page" on this site and one hell of a man to work with. He will take the time to answer your questions, he has a top notch facility, top notch equipment, and is a competition shooter himself. Very good guy to work with!

280man, I live in S E N C. I do not shoot competition however, sometimes I shoot long distance (600 yds. and more)
I would like the rifle to be B R type. I do not have any components at all. I guess my budget would be as good of a price as i could get from a good smith. And, of course I would love to get it asap as you might expect. I would really like to find one already built but as far as I can see nobody gets rid of a 6.5 x 47 that is shooting well.

No question - Howard Pitts, Pitts Precision Rifles in Taft TN.

He has built 3-4 rifles for me and literally dozens for others. 4 National Championship riles, 14 National Records (or more) on his rifles and who knows how many State Championships. I think some of the National F-Class team use his rifles also. Top notch, great Christian guy to work with. He and both his daughters are comptitive shooters also so he knows his stuff!
