+1 on Sid Goodling! He built my 6.5x47 and it shoots! He also built the rifle I sold to Col. Kussman. He won the Wimbledon cup with it this year! Great smith for benchrest rifles too.

David Corbin in Kentucky. He builds really accurate rifles and all his work is precise. Not just a great 'smith who knows his stuff and meets his delivery promise, but an easy guy to do business with as well.

Ray Bowman, would be close! Also don't over look Bill Shehane! As far as stocks! The man has been around for a long time! Most that have any intrest in BR know the the name Bill Shehane! Not for his gunsmithing as much as his stocks! When I decide to build my next BR rifle. It will most likely be in another Bill Shehane stock, and put together by Leonard Baity, or Mike Bryant! The reason being because Bill Shehane does have the rep. for the best BR stocks! As well these two smith's know Bill's Stocks inside and out! I think it's important to match the two's ability!! Plus Bill is as well a awesome guy! If he say's it then that is the way it is! His bedding jobs, and stocks are something that in my eyes are yet unmatched! He does some of the best work! Bill is also just south of Charlotte!

Ray is a awesome guy! He will do his best to give you the most accurate rifle that he can possibly build! Witch as far as I'm concern will be a Damn accurate BR rifle! Ray knows his S***! There are so many great gunsmiths out there today, with the best equipment ever available, that it is impossible to find the "best" one. BR shooters at my range have used dozens of top-name 'smiths. I have had work done by Mickey Coleman, Gary Long, Nat Lambeth and Jim Borden ... all impeccable gentlemen. At no time in the history of shooting have we had the availability of the equipment we have today. I can remember when an area of the country was lucky to have a gunsmith or two. Today, we can ship 'em across the country and have total freedom to find what you want.

If you find a 'smith that can do it right away, though, keep looking. Just about every top-level 'smith I know of are on a 1- to 2-year waiting list.

I like ReedG's post and agree! One of the first things I learned in this game is to have patenit's! With either waiting on parts, smiths, or load developmenent!

It does all come together in the end!
