Same way with with gun builders they call them self gunsmiths . We know the difference

well i guess each would have to define gunsmith from their own perspective.

Gunsmith: a guy you can take any broken gun to and he can fix it

Gunsmith: a guy who can select from the huge selection of gun parts available and assemble something that meets or exceeds our expectations.

Gunsmith: an artisan who can build a functional work of art. Question is ,if you can afford it, will you live long enough for him to complete it. i would say this guy is very rare.

The CNC machine and 3d printing are making everything so much easier today. those skills are being lost.

i put stockmakers in a whole other category. tried it and learned great respect for them.
