Looking for a scope on a 308

I like to keep my hunting rifle scopes simple and rugged. Keeping the power range as low as possible. This makes it much easier to pick up moving game in wooded areas but still having enough power for longer shots. One of the best all around scopes for me is the simple Leupold 2x7 scope with duplex reticle. This in not fancy or trendy but extremely reliable and reasonably priced. Use the extra money quality mounts and bases and practice ammo. Then do as much extra shooting in different positions as possible. Good luck

e between hunting whitetails in Georgia and elk. You have a 308. An elk is big and that would limit your range. Too many here are overthinking this.

For little more or under $200 Burris, Leupold/Redfield make great 3-9 scopes with a lifetime warranty. 3-9 Burris Fullfield killed for me at 410 yards on my 338. Handles the wet well also. Think less, shoot more. Buy a Burris or Leupold/Redfield 3-9 and enjoy the hunt.

I purchased a Ruger Standard 308 22" 1:10 twist for white tail in Georgia. But I would like to go Elk hunting.

Any recommendations for a scope that's $400 or less? (Sorry I'm cheap. But after buying 3 guns and ammo. The wife gave me the "look" last night).

I have no clue about scopes except for what people handed me to go hunting.

Thanks,
Scopes long gone

If your shooting not much more than 100 yards why do you need a scope? When I used to hunt deer in PA most of the guys said they only needed the scope to see if a spike deer looked like the horns were long enough to be legal. The lens aways fogged up from my breath.
