long range rimfires (with style)

here is an article about putting your rimfire to the long range test.

This link was shown on another website and it was surpising just how many claimed it couldn't be done. However, we know better. Soda can at 250 yards - very doable.

I am very surprised at how many people claim impossible. With bad Ammo I would imagine the variation in velocity would make it more inconsistant. I shot a 5 shot group a few weeks ago at 110 yards that was about 1 inch, 3 of 5 were about 5/8 of an inch. 250 on a calm day the vertical veriation may be 5" but side to side could be 2.5". There are a lot of people on the other site who say they are going to film their attempts so we will see.

I've got a winchester 52 from 1927 and I shoot it at 200 regularly with peep sights and on a good calm day it will shoot ten shot groups under 3" all day long and at 100 I've shot as good as 3/4" not too bad for a 84yr old gun

Haha cool article.

I gotta get myself a nice rimfire with a nice scope. All my .22LR's have open sights. :-[

K0na ... don't let that stop you! I have a Henry lever action with open sights. I shoot at clay birds at about 175 ~ 180 yards, and hit them fairly consistently. I don't shoot that gun off the bench... only off-hand (and I'm pretty bad at shooting off-hand!). The tricky part is getting your holdover consistent. One way around that, is to simply adjust the iron sights to zero at whatever your distance you're shooting (if they adjust that far). The only downside (if you want to call it that), is that shooting long-range with your 22 doesn't get old... you'll go through A LOT of rounds! Make sure you take someone with you, so they can spot for you with a scope.

I'm just learning to shoot but I got a good handle on it out to 100 yards. ;D

Ive got a CZ 452 lux and it has adjustable sights from 25m to 200m. I just have to spend more time seeing how it accually drops compaired to what the sights are set at. I did make a few hits on a 7" x 11" ish steel plate at 200 yards. 150 yards the hits were alot more often.

I also have a Ruger 10/22. Siiri bought it for me ;D

All my shooting is done off hand with the 22s. Gotta pratice.

Hi Guys
This is just to let you guys know about how accurate a .22Rf rifle can be with the right conditions and the right ammo combination shooting at 100Yds . ammo was .22 RF Eley Team.

This is what I shot with my .22 RF rifle below last year.
I shoot .22RF Bench Rest with one of the Anschutz Super Match 54 in a 1913 Electric blue Adjustable stock , with a Leupold 36X bench rest scope , I use the Cicognani FAT Tuner , and a Cicognani Rest , I scored 97 out of 100 @ 100 Yds and 4-10X, the 10 X is approx 10mm across.

We changed the Original 100Yds Targets 10 Spot and 10X and reduced them down in size to make it harder than the standard .22 RF 100Yds Target, so the 10 became a 9 then the 10X a 10 then the new smaller 10X stuck in the center .

I was just beat to the No 1 top spot in this particular shooting competition by a guy who is an Army Armour-er , who was using my rifle and he scored 98 and 3-10X , so he beat me on the highest score ! but not the 10X's

So he came first and I was second , but the top two spots were won by my rifle ! not bad.

We even had very good results with the New Remington Target Ammo.

Very Very Good Shooting Guys.

Steve
