Long Dasher (6-6.5x47 Lapua AI) Questions

If you have a Long Dasher (6-6.5x47 Lapua Improved) I would like to hear what you are using to resize your brass.

I don't think the case has anything to do with a Dasher the case is called a 6 x 47 Hot
A long dasher is made with a 6 M M B R case I have toyed with a Dasher long .010 and
.020 Larry

From what i read on the website here the 6x47 Hot was the same thing as the 6-6.5x47. They gave it that long name so it would not be confused with the 6x47 Swedish Match.

Your are correct both the 6 br and the 6x 47 hot has the same shoulder angle. 6br has 37.80 gr water capacity 6x 47 hot has 47 gr Dasher uses the 6 br case and the shoulder angle and the neck is pushed forward about.250 along with angles change the case holds 41 gr . I would call the 6x47 it a 6x 47 Ackley.
if the neck bas taken forward it would be a 6x 47 Ackley long How long would be listed after.
I have a 6mm Dasher long it holds 43 gr of water. Larry

Dave Kiff (PTG), one of the first to make a reamer for this particular cartridge, referred to the 6-6.5x47 Lapua Improved as the Long Dasher. If you look at his chamber print it will become clear why he called it the Long Dasher. It has a 40, not a 30 degree shoulder as well as other changes that dimensionally distinguish it from the 6x47 Hot. If you are referring to the Whitley 6x47 Lapua wildcat (PTG print 6x47 Lapua Whitley/6mm Hot), it is a different, but similar cartridge based on the same parent case. To clear up any confusion you may have about the cartridge I have called a Long Dasher, this forum currently has a thread started by Grimstod entitled "Long Dasher (6-6.5x47)" in which he provides a photo showing the parent case transition from 6.5x47 Lapua to 6-6.5x47 Improved. Have you any experience reloading this specific cartridge? If so, I would appreciate hearing about your resizing die?

It's the 6x47 Swiss Match. That cartridge was/is based on 6x47 RUAG brass which I recall has a large primer pocket unlike the 6.5x47 Lapua. Before starting a new Long Dasher thread I left a question on your thread asking if you had completed your project. I was curious which way you went with getting a resizing die. So the question stands.

4 years ago Dave made me a reamer with a .272 neck and a 40 degree shoulder it was marked 40 degree improved .
I loaded it using the hot case and just change the water capacity. Did it work No ES were bad every primer and powder combination 40 ' was the best Larry

How are you getting a Long Dasher from a 6mmBR case?
Any further you run a Dasher reamer in, will shorten the case in length.
By going +010 and +020 deeper, is Improving to more case capacity, but shortening the case to do it (not longer).
Long Dasher's are made with longer parent cases, typically being the 6.5x47L, pushing them back to form a Long Dasher, that are Improved in body length and Longer in neck+case length (not shorter).

Also:
6mmBR = 30-degree shoulder, 0.320" neck length
6Dasher = 40-degree shoulder, 0.245" neck length, improved by 0.126" in body/shoulder length (NOT pushed forward .250")
Both are based near equal case lengths = 1.560" OAL
A 6Dasher is a 6BR-Ackley Improved; Acklied by the 40-degree shoulder, Improved by the longer body. Regardless how far you run the reamer in, it is still a 6BR-AI (Dasher).

6.5x47L = 30-degree shoulder, 0.300" neck length, case length of 1.850", that is a good candidate to make a Long Dasher from, since it is a longer case of near equal dimensions.

Longer body and shorter neck just like a BR X or a dasher does to a BR case . You can take a 6-5 x47 case move the shoulder back and shortened the neck you have the same thing. Or you can shorten the neck on a dasher and have a short neck dasher. Long can be body or neck or both . Myself I think in body or case capacity. Were done Larry

dmoran... I'm not. Where did I say the parent case is a 6BR? Yep, parent case is 6.5x47 Lapua. My reamer cuts a 1.86" chamber length with 40 degree shoulder. Based on Dave Kiff's 6-6.5x47 Lapua Improved which he also called a Long Dasher.

All the AckleysI have had you shoot the parent case without jaming or using false should to make it a Ackley . Not with a dasher. Good day Larry

If you lengthen the body and shorten the neck you have a 6 B.S. Which is Bill Shehanes version of an 6BR Ackley. Matt

I know your not..... I quoted Larry and replied to him exclusively.

Or you change it different and you could have a 6 Matt .
A friend had Bi Smally mc Person hemisphere shoulder on a 6 mm WSM and he called it a 6 Jody. Larry

Thanks Dmoran.

And for the many people on here who are confused the Long Dasher is this. (Bottom)
