Local gun store selling on gunbroker for absurd price

Once stimulus and tax return money dries up I’d have to think some prices will come down a little. If wealthy Silicon Valley dopes are too cheap to pay current black market prices who’s buying this stuff?

Even if he listed it at $300 I know me and other ls would grab it.

I mean you're talking about 30 cents a primer. That's not an omg end of world.

And if the local people complained you went up due to market prices. Who cares and then you can go to selling it for those prices on the internet...... But at least give us local boys a chance.

I suppose; you’re talking about $25 to load a box of 9mm and $30 for 45acp. Not crazy but still a little pricey.

Anyhow I see a store name as the username for selling the primer. Which is the absurd price of $300+ for a brick.

I call the store, ask to speak to the owner and asked if they had any. The guy laughed, like they all do. He explained he hasn't seen them in several months. I let him Yap my ears off on his Conspiracy theories what is going on.

So I then asked him, are you username "x" (which is the store name)? And he hangs up on me.


How messed up is that?

Also the quantity he is selling is 10+ bricks of ten different types of primers.

By the way. I'm not one to expose the name of the place I've seen. But search your own state and look at the username. You might be shocked just like me discovering it's your local gun store.

What are your thoughts?

The solution is, IMO, simple.
One, you are not forbidden from bidding on those primers or ammo online. If you're willing to pay then you should bid your comfort zone. At least being local you might be able to negotiate for no shipping charges.
Two, while basically anyone may ship loaded ammo (with proper identification labels on the shipping box), having an FFL does not make one certified to ship powder or primers. My guess is your LGS has no one hazmat certified to handle the shipping for them so, if they are shipping primers, they are in clear violation of the law (not just UPS/FedEx policy). Narc them to the Feds!

I believe the Silicon Valley geeks play with something other than guns.

We have, well most of us have seen it before and we will see it again. Since I have no need for any components I really don't have a dog in the race. Matter of fact I just sold off 43 pounds of powder for $12 a pound. Most of it assorted VihtaVuori from the mid to late 90s and still perfectly good powder.

Anyway a good friend has his gun shop. Real nice and good guy with a large shop covering 3 store fronts in a strip mall. Likely a thousand guns in the place. When this perfect storm began just about everything went. My last visit the handgun pickings were slim. He can't get new stock and while he never really got into reloading supplies he always treated me well with pricing on stuff he had. No new stock leaves nothing to sell but the monthly expenses continue. Insurance, phone, the utilities and the like. So while last March and April were a heck of a ride the profits only go so far.

I also haven't a clue who would pay some of the outrageous prices for primers. Not I, that much I know.

I'd wait till their busiest time of the week and go proclaim it to everyone in the store and the parking lot. Perhaps someone should make them a primers for sale sign by the front door with their current pricing. A sorta "KICK ME" sign for their back.

I guess it comes down to this. If you are a young shooter just getting into the wonderful sport, be patient. If you are middle age and now crapping your pants, well go open up your wallet and complain. If you are a seasoned older individual, sit back and have a good laugh. I have reloading components to last my grandchildren’s lifetime. I personally would rather sell it to the people who played games with GameStop and donate the proceeds to fight childhood cancer. Those children, many, will never get the opportunity to enjoy our sport.

You should not. I am currently going through my inventory and gathering items that I will be able to put up for sale. All money will be donated to go fight childhood cancer. My alma mater holds a funding campaign every year called THON. On the box it says keep away from children, I say shooter helping children. I am trying to figure out how to make this happen. I find it interesting that when market forces are driving prices down everyone recognises that as a good thing but when the same market forces drive prices up everyone recognises that as a bad thing.

Hard position to be in if your the owner of a local small town gun shop, we have one guy here still selling things cheap, his shelves are bare and he isn’t getting more to replace it and I doubt he makes it 2-3 months unless he has a good stash of capital somewhere. At first I admired him for holding his prices, I still admire him but I’m not sure it was the smartest move in the long run. What a crappy position to be in, sell cheap and everybody loves you but you may have to close your store or sell for flipper prices, stay in business and be the bad guy. No win situation.

I don’t agree with the dishonesty either but the prices are fair game right now. Everyone hates to see it but it’s true whether we admit it or not. Things will only be getting much worse in the coming months...and I’m sure these store owners who have put everything on the line realize that too. Their shortages mean much more to them then ours do to us.

.....and it sounds like he has employees. if money doesn't come in either by over the counter or internet sales these people will soon be out of a job.

My father in law called there today. He talked to a regular employee. They had no idea the owner was doing this. They stayed with him on the phone and pulled it up with other employees and customers around to hear it. The people my father in law could hear were not happy.


And for those saying it's business. I've mentioned there's nothing wrong with having the mark up price of it. As long as it's on the shelves to sell to the locals to give us a chance.
What upsets me is the lying saying it is not been seen for months..... I mean they couldn't even tell us that it was going on gunbroker to make big bucks. And he was embarrassed hanging up the phone when I questioned him.

The owner could make more selling it to locals vs having to pay gunbroker fees.

Also..... This is the country. There is 2 stores and everyone who hunts knows everyone and their grandkids. You can pull this stuff on the city. But not the country. Because us boys will stop shopping somewhere real quick and not blink and eye regardless how good your sell is. Because we know that you no longer have our backs.

It's a small county. There might be 10,000 in the 3 counties around these lakes.

There is this gun store and one other.

All us boys know each other. Heck we even know each other grandkids because we hang out at a convince store, know each other's gun clubs, etc etc. I think there might be 10 police officers. And they sit down with us every day and we visit each other for the holidays.

..... There was an elderly women who moved here that turned 100 something. We decided to all send her birthday cards, since she was afraid to go out. And the post office helped with mailing it for free. Anyhow majority of houses did so.

And for people who believe in the virus. They give away free hand made mask. They sit them in a box at the end of the driveway saying it's free.

Moving here is one of the best decisions my wife and I have made.
