Lightweight Bolt Action?

Barreled action is 3.0 pounds. This one will end up at 4.25 pounds. Defiance anTi action. 22” Lilja 3 groove chambered in 6.5x47L. Stainless internal magazine box, spring with aluminum follower, Bix & Andy Dakota trigger, aluminum trigger guard and titanium action screws. On its way to Oregunsmithing to have a stock built around it, 16 oz. or less including the recoil pad.

Those are some really nice fancy shooting irons, certainly a lot of figuring has gone into those rifles. Myself, I kind of like my hunting rifles with a little bit of meat on their bones. Kind of like the skinny starved supermodel versus a nicely proportioned country gal. Everybody has their preferences. Maybe i’ll have something like that built myself who knows.

My 280AI has a real lightweight barrel from Stan Taylor at Douglas and Mark Brown (Brown Precision) put together a custom Kevlar stock for it. A wonderful rifle, but not the best to shoot off hand. It does punish you on the bench.

Likewise. . . . . My .280AI weighs almost exactly 8 pounds scoped with a sling and three shells. It is most definitely not fun to shoot. I went down the ultra lightweight rabbit hole 20 years ago or so and have given up on it. 9 pounds or thereabouts suits me just fine.

Dave, can you tell us what that barrel measures at the case mouth? I've seen some featherweights before, but I'm curious how slim it gets. Thank you.

As close as I can measure it, the diameter goes from 1.200” at the shoulder down to .955” where the case mouth will be. A 6.5x47L case is pretty short at a little over 1.8” but you probably wouldn’t want this taper for longer cartridges.

Just an update. I went with the Defiance Anti-X. Now comes the hard part, waiting for all the parts to come together...
