Liberty Safe -- Issue with Access Codes

Liberty safes just blocked their comments on X because it's come out they keep the combination to the safes they sell and just provided one to the FBI to open a safe... Needless to say people were blasting them before they locked the comments.... Evidently the comments are the only thing that remains locked permanently...

Most manufactures do. Many years ago, I forgot the combo to my cannon safe . I called up and
gave them the number on the sticker on top of the safe and they gave me the combo.
I removed the serial number that day.

A real good idea... On my way to see if mine has one... Seems like every burglar in the world will know this now... There's plenty of ways to store your numbers away from the safe... This story is coming out hard now...

And sure enough , right on top was the serial number.... Seriously WTF if they will give you the combination by knowing that number why would you put it right in front on top where anybody can get it.... Real secure.... So let me get this straight... It's fire proof but as someone who's been through a massive fire uhmmmm whatever and you can open it with a number that's right on top.... So it's kinda a safe if you're criminals don't have a cell phone....lol....We are doomed as a society aren't we....

Apple didn't lose theirs when they refused to open a phone...
There was no proper warrant in that case. Please do your research before jumping on a bandwagon.

Edited to add that they faced tremendous pressure and ultimately caved after losing many court cases. Having a safe with a company known to store a code to open your lock in the event that you forget yours is a risk. Had the police called a locksmith for a forced entry they still would have been able to do that.

I am not jumping on a bandwagon , it doesn't make me feel so good about buying a safe that has a way to open it right on top..., Why don't I just hide $20,000 worth of stuff in my mattress and hope it doesn't get found.... I know that with a warrant the police could have simply prayed it open much less called a locksmith since I used to do that job... Warrants are being handed out these days like hot cakes I think the past 3 years has proven that.... In my opinion they shouldn't be keeping a list of combinations....

The police had a search warrant and provided the warrant to liberty safe. Had they not complied they would have broken the law and lost their business license.
No intention of starting an argument, but I don't think so. Quoting from the article: "The company willingly provided the safe’s passcode to the FBI after receiving proof of a valid warrant." To me, that reads as the FBI proved to Liberty Safe that they had a warrant to search Mr. Hughes' property. I don't believe that this translates to the FBI having a valid warrant to search Liberty Safe's business records. So, I remain unimpressed by the company's actions as I believe they chose to "play nice with the government" and provide that info, but I don't believe they were compelled to do so by any court. If someone can clarify that the warrant issued was a warrant to search Liberty Safe's records, I'll stand corrected. I don't think they broke any law, nor was their business license was ever in jeopardy.

Apparently you can buy that locking device directly from the manufacturer without a back door code or you can reprogram the code. It wasn't clear to me which (back door code or you can reprogram the code) but that you could easily replace the one on your Liberty and eliminate this if you choose to.

I have a Liberty safe. The serial number is noted at the factory and a temporary combination is issued. I was provided the methodology to change the combination by the factory to my desired numbers in which I did after installation.
I tried the original combination after I changed to my numbers and it would not open on the original combination.

There must be more to the request such as a subpoena, court order and further support to gain a search warrant. I suspect if the FBI wanted in a safe, they have the knowledge, resources and tools necessary to do so. Not their first rodeo either.

Just my .02¢

DJ

The deal is even though you changed the main combination a back door combination still exists which is what was used to open the safe in question.
