Leupold warrenty

Why did Leupold decide to quit honoring their lifetime warranty on their scopes modified by Premier Reticles? This did honor their warranty until they ended their relationship with Premier Reticles.

It was costing Leupold a bunch of money to repair/replace items installed by another manufacturer. I doubt you'll find a scope maker willing to honor their warranty on a scope that has been modified by someone else.

I agree but they did honor the warranty until they had a parting of ways.

Leupold is a fantastic company...in the early 90's I bought a used Mark 4 M1 10x that had the Premier mil-dot reticle and the little gold Premier sticker on it. I dropped it right on the turret {of course, why wouldn't it land with the most damage??} on a rock from my treestand while hunting in Pa.
I called them and spoke to a lady named Gail {sic?} I never thought to mention premier and they didn't either. She said that I didn't have to be the original purchaser to receive a warranty on a Mark 4 scope. I sent it in and got back a brand new one no charge!!!!
The mil-dots from Leupold at that time were not the USMC "football" type, but I could care less...like every other civilian with mil-dots in their scope I have never used them once.
There was no way this damage was Leupolds issue, I fully explained and anyone could plainly see that all of the damage was totally my fault. They gave me a brand new one any way. I fully expected and was prepared to pay for the repair. Leupold is a fantastic company. They might claim to not work on them and maybe I just hit 'em up early, but they replaced mine free of charge.

A big shout out to Leupold company! Fellow rifleman and women be glad we have them and they are still American made! Truly a great American company. I don't blame them for not honoring their warranty after somebody has tampered with them.

A few years ago I was tinkering with my load the Tuesday before the Friday deer opener when my scope took a dump. I quickly drove home and called Leupold and was told 2 -3 week turnaround. I informed them that I was going to next day air my scope to them along with my credit card info, and asked them to ship UPS Next Day Air when they got it finished and to use the card to pay the shipping. I figured I could salvage the last few days of season.

The scope left here on a Tuesday afternoon, was delivered to Leupold the next day, was repaired the same day, was boxed and shipped the same day next day air, and I got it back the next day (Thursday) at 1:00!!!:). I later checked and they did it all on their dime....no charge to me what so ever!!! :D 3000+ mile round trip with repairs in two days!!

You simply can not find better service than that.....ANYWHERE!!!

I sent back a 6.5-20 V3 that had a custom Premier reticle and first focal plane mod. After several trips to Lepuold I paid for a new Leupold mill reticle and they removed all the Premier parts and restored to original. They told me they had no Premier parts to replace the reticle with, so I presented them an option they made good.

I always read about leupold replacing for free scopes that hunters drop from a treestand/run over with their suburban. My father slipped on some steep wet rocks and hit his rifle on one of them, hitting his scope on the objective end from the side. It bent the tube just the slightest amount. Leupold said since it was his fault they would give him $40 off a new one.

I'm a leupold fan and run them on all my hunting rifles, but they don't always send you a new one for free if you break yours.

They are the best in the business;)

I'm hoping that Vortex gives them a run for their money as I've been a life long fan and customer of Leupolds and still am. But I also just bought my first Vortex Golden Eagle mostly because of what other experienced and competitive shooters have told me and the price was exceptional because of a Military/LE Discount (40% off list price). Even Leupold couldn't come close to matching that. But I fully agree, the CS and warranty at Leupold is unquestionably worth buying their products, even though they have not spent all that much money in advertising their products over the last few years.

Insurance?
You mean to tell me that you don't have your guns and optics insured under your home owners or renters insurance? I have renters insurance and I have everything insured by serial number with ZERO $$ deductable.

So lets just say you slipped on a rock and your scope broke your fall- you would claim that on your insurance?

What company please!

Yep. I have only used them one time......I had an old pair of East German ZEISS JANA binos that my brother picked up for an embarrisingly low price. He was in Germany when the wall came down in the late 80's and got them for next to nothing on the east side. My wife let my kids look out the living room window with them and they got dropped. The insurance company paid me enough to replace them with top of the line Zeiss. I bought top end Leica instead. That was 15 years ago.

Snert, I will get back to you on the company, but I think that it is EMC insurance. I have all of my rifles, shotguns, hand guns, scopes , binos, rangefinders, 2 showmobiles, a four wheeler, a pile of golf equipment, PLUS the annual cost of the renters insurance itself. I pay under $1000 a year...closer to $800.00. BUT...I get a BIG discount for having my pickup and car with them...a clean record , and being an old fart with no claims the last 10 years. It sure made me feel better knowing that I was covered when I was running all over the country attending IBS 600/1000 shoots with a pile of expensive custom guns and optics sitting in my truck for days at a time.

Homeowners insurance is fine, as long as the accident happens at home. There is always a deductible on property damage, unless you are self insured.
