Also have a 45-70 on a mauser last used on a bear in AK. Have an extra action Butch if you get the itch.

I hear that the 45-70 can be done on a Model 17 action also but I've never seen it done.

Here's the guide gun I used that made me build the 450. It's a factory Marlin 444 (JM) and I carried it for years as a guide gun and it worked fine. It packs as much punch as the 45 7- guide guns but bullet selection is critical. One day I had to come up against a heavy grizzly and it didn't break the shoulders. I was running hard cast which up to that point had worked well.

So, I built the 450 and left the 444 to use only in areas where there would be no big boned bears and for deer. For deer it's great when you hunt crowded areas, and you have to try and stop them 99.99% of the time immediately in their tracks. The 444 is why I don't have a 30 30, as far as deer or short-range elk go, they fit the same purpose.

Now here is my idea of a modern general-purpose rifle. AR 15 M4E1 upper and lower by Aero Precision, 6MM ARC, 16" heavy Ballistic Advantage stainless barrel, Rock River National Match 2 stage trigger, Midwest fixed front sight, MATECH U.S. government issue rear sight, Luther Buttstock and Aero Enhanced buffer kit. You'll see the mount for the brass catcher, at over $1 a piece I don't want to lose any. It's the size of my M1A1 30 Carbine and is quite honestly one of the finest CQB rifles I've handled, it prints 1/2" at 100 yards average and makes 650-yard hits easily in wind that my A2 in 5.56 would never handle with twice the energy. I show pictures with a 5 round magazine and the 24, the 5 is how it's carried as it's legal hunting and to be honest the 24's work well but to move it around in trucks or what not they make it less handy.

Made in 1906, for it's 100th birthday I took it out and shot 2 buffalo ...... 1 with each barrel
