I went to the range with my AR rifle and 60 rounds of Hornady 103 grain Precision Hunter. I'm stepping up my effort to finalize my process to load the 103 hunting projectiles for regular carry in the field. I mapped trajectory for midsized game hunting from 50 yards to 300 yards with this bullet, I report that later, I'm too pooped for measuring and math right now.
The rifle has a 2 stage Match trigger, 16" Ballistic Advantage barrel and a 1x10 Sig LPVO, nothing fancy. The Sig at lower powers is clear and the reticle makes for quick target acquisition.
I just happened to set the Chronograph in front of an 8" steel plate that was out at 300 yards. I was interested in looking at factory velocity as a base line, not accuracy and was sitting with my elbow propped on the bench with no back rest. I had the scope set to 6 power and dinged that 8" steel plate 10 times in a row. The velocities were averaging 2510 at 10 feet from the muzzle.
The groups at 100 yards were not as good as my Hornady Black 105 ammunition but were certainly averaging well under an inch. The rifle carries and handles well, I do prefer carrying the rifle with the 5 round magazines over the 24 round magazines for field carry. I think ot makes a fine addition as a general purpose rifle.
