Lets talk .22LR match ammo (50-100yd)

From what I have experianced the 457's in general are more picky than the older CZ's and the MTR chambers in particular can be even pickier. I have 2 old 452's that love anything SK or Lapua and even do decently with CCI SV. Neither one will shoot anything Eley or RWS. A lot of my buddies shoot the MTR chambered rifles and just about every one is using Lapua Midas plus at the matches with Center X a close second

My new 457 Varmint, non MTR chambered, is sporadic in nature. One day it will give me .3 groups with ammo A and .6's with ammo B then next range session flip 180. Today it was shooting bugholes with Norma TAC and turning it's nose up at Eley Match.

My advice is try a potpourri of different ammos and let the rifle tell you what it likes. Best place to find them is use the Ammoseek website. Set up a bunch of "notify me" alerts

Since I believe you’re the guy that never cleans, a factoid for you. Generally, you can shoot most ammo over ELEY but you have trouble with higher grade ELEY shooting over many other brands without clearing the other lube. At $15 a box, worth taking not of,

yet it shoots beautifully in my Remington 40X, Kidd Supergrade and 457 Varmint, all of which have unscrubbed bores. I recently bought another 5 bricks of Match for those rifles. It just will not shoot in the 452's. Go figure.

By the way, I do clean the actions, bolts and chambers, I just don't scrub the bores on my rimfires, bit of a difference there.

At $19.50 a box I don't practice with either. Practice is usually with SK Rifle Match.
Pretty much the game plan for the grandsons. I'll have them shoot at
25 yards with standard ammo then switch them to the Wolf Extra. If
no real change in groups, I'll take them to 50 yards and repeat. Then
75 yards, then 100. Luckily our lower 100 yard range is pretty calm in the
morning.....Purpose of this thread is to get to know what's out there, and
what other users of the CZ-MTR have experienced. I don't mind spending
money on good ammo if it does it's job when it's needed. But hell no, I'll
let them plink away at cans and such with the high dollar stuff !! CCI does
that just fine....LOL

CCI standard velocity and norma usually work decent at 50 yards

SK standard plus typically punches above its pricepoint.

What you are not hearing yet is that these guns are so finiky. Lot to lot variations will be either pure joy or make you think all that type of ammo is trash. It may not be so.

Play with screw torque on your stock. it may change things also

For practice ammo that Is generally easy to obtain Tac-22 is great in an MTR. It cycles well in the match chamber, holds respectable accuracy and at $5 box is a great value. I’ve yet to shoot a box that was out in left field compared to others accuracy wise so you can just concentrate on good practice.

This is what my CZ457 Varmint can do when the stars are in perfect alignment. On occasion I get groups of 5 shots all scoring in the 10 ring but not all touching, and if conditions are very mild and I am on my game I can do that 2-3 targets out of 5 at 100 yds. The 10 ring is 0.5" in diameter.

I noticed on your target you used Mueller 40X scope. I have one
salted away with the large parallax wheel. I'm debating that or one
of my Bushnell 4.5-30x50 Elites.

I would add Center-X to your list.
I don’t think they produce it anymore, I think they’re just dividing the production lots between Midas+ and XAct and enjoying the price premium.

That said, it is what it is. I will continue to test Eley Match until I find good lots and buy that ammo at more reasonable prices.

It's still made, but hard to find like any of the aforementioned good brands of ammo. I buy the Center-X by the case which runs around $1,300 to $1,450.

Fuj, My Muller came with the large wheel, but I chose not to put it on the scope. It also came with a sun shade I do use. My experience with the scope is it tracks fairly accurately but not perfectly. It does stay where it is positioned always. With sighters allowed any time in our matches I can get ,and stay centered up. I hold off for a condition change unless it is a major one and I an short on time. I have no plan to change scopes. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I got a case of CX the 3rd week of Dec. A friend got one in Jan. Also have read where guys that went to the test centers the past couple months have bought some. The lots may have been several months old though.
I think it all comes of the same machines & then they grade it into whichever meets whatever standard each fit into. They haven't stopped making it, however it all may be so good only Midas & Xact is only coming off the machines:) ..tongue in cheek...

Something I came across while searching ammo test results.
One test had Wolf M.E. Eley pitted against Wolf M.E. Lapua ??
Apparently Lapua's contract ended to produce Wolf, and Eley
has been making them the last few years.....A brick of the Wolf
Match extra showed up, but still no word on the rifle. It was in
stock when ordered, then for some reason it was'nt ??? Waiting
on a call.

prior to 2018 Wolf 22LR ammunition was made by SK/JAGD/Lapua. Then it began to be produced by Eley. SK is a Lapua owned company and is made in Germany. Eley is made in the UK.
