Let's see your range dogs (real ones, not bad guns)

Somebody dumped these two sisters on my hunting property when they were 8 weeks old. Just happened to be in the right tree stand when they came through. Coyotes would have got them if I hadn't.

Look part coon, lab, beagle??... have a nose like a bloodhound. Scout on left, Lucy on right....Good girls.
Lost a deer while bow hunting, only took Lucy a couple minutes to find it.

Our mutt did that dog DNA test and the results are awesome. I can look at the paper work when I get home and let you know. If you care. I know it probably doesn’t matter. Good looking dogs.

I've a soft spot for all dogs ,as they deserve our love and care in turn for their affection ,pretty damn good bargain if you ask me .

Saw the dog which was helping clear logs ,which reminded Me when I'd cut trees ,My Male Thor would pickup heavy 40-60 lb. Eucalyptus logs and carry them up too the wood stack . He actually preferred a 20-40 lb. log as to a throw toy . He would whittle on that log until it either was so small or worn down ,then want Me to cut another . Even as a Pup never chewed furniture ,just his logs . Yep that docile little fellow on the right side ,turned out to be a Tree muncher ,that was a 35 lb. fresh cut log once ,which became his toy .

He reminds me of my first shepherd, Helga. She was a true gentle giant at 110 pounds. Mild mannered and gentle with kids and family. But when a stranger pulled into our driveway and she barked at them, you could see the fear in their eyes and no way were they getting out of the vehicle until I came over. LOL
I have the two younger ones now but miss her.3A6EBF7E-8C8C-4D83-90F1-057BA43254A7.jpeg95044E29-44C4-4255-97B2-67008C1BE7CD.png

Some mighty fine looking canines in this thread so thought I would add one more…Opie he goes just about everywhere with me….

This area has tons of herding dogs ,cattle ,sheep , horses whatever needs rounding up . Queensland Healers ,Australian cattle dogs , Great Pyrenees , Maremma and have seen a few Anatolian Shepherd's also .

What I personally find amazing are the Peruvian or Argentinian Shepherds ,using flags so as to control dogs ,which are johnny on the spot after those sheep . We reside next to a common stock trail with 10'sK's of acres open range ,animal's move in Spring and Fall . Either up Mountain meadows or down into desert areas in late Fall ,depending on weather and snowfall . Dogs cut herds into sections of manageable size ,then walk them down a roadway across a bridge and continue along the roads until nightfall ,then round all of them up into a herd . Where the Big dogs keep watchful eyes and ears alert .

Last Fall had the opportunity to observe ( as we're elevated above the action ) a pair of coyotes ,attempting to snatch a lamb or two on the outskirts of the herd . I'll bet their still running ,after that Anatolian Shepherd casually got up walked up hill around a draw ,while a Great Pyrenees casually walked up 250 -300 yds away going the opposite way , the shepherd was heading a wide circle around coyotes while Pyrenees was going up the draw . Well 10 minutes later a lot of yelping and crying ,with two coyotes running for their very lives as the dogs caught them between them . We used to run around 280-325 head of cattle here depending on calving and high mountain pasture loss . Don't do it anymore too much work . So Not fair for us to have a cattle dog ,with NO job . They deserve a purpose and do the job they were bred for . They are Smart and Loyal dogs .

Ah Meatbag ,a Belgian Malinois Thumbs UP on that one . Where we used to reside ,I was close friends with several Sheriff's and local PD and when time permitted was allowed to take part in training sessions .
Ah the days when finding quality dogs ,didn't require mortgaging the homestead or searching every nook and cranny . Quality dogs have gotten ridiculously expensive and unfortunately the breeders I've used in the past ,have retired or died . Had one fine Lady who bred Large German Shepherds for over #40 years and finally had to call it quits . She sure had some Quality Well Trained dogs and was an interstate breeder as well as local .

Here’s Zoe, our newest dog. Her mom is a full breed basset hound who came to a basset rescue and the adoption agency didn’t know she was pregnant. Well she had puppies a week later. Lol…the rescue was serious. She came with all these papers and medical records. They did a DNA test and her dad is a heeler and Black and Tan coon hound. She’s 10 weeks old and gets along great with our kids and Swiss mountain dogs Molly and Gus.

This one is a Dutch Shepherd but we have a Malinois(the wife's dog) as well. She was supposed to be a police dog but was too small and did not have the right amount of "drive" they look for when she was a puppy, but that worked out perfect for us. Sadly a lot of, if not most American "lines" of almost any dog have gone down hill for fad breading. Forcing you to look to foreign blood lines to get a dog that is what it is supposed to be.
