A pal & I hit a spot where the rancher called and said you guys need to shoot p-dogs, they have exploded on the ranch this year. We have any time access and rotate it between the others we shoot on. Nothing worse than driving into a p-dog area then having them dive under for the rest of the day due to over shot/well educated rats.
So of course us being one to not deny any ranchers request to shoot/remove varmints we hit the property at 6am. 1st shot was at 615 and last shot of the day at 648 PM, talk about a long day, but it was a blast.
14 miles of nothing but p-dog towns, evey drainage, valley, open flats were full of grounds moving with them. The pups were out like thorns on top of the mounds, countless triples and quads with those dumb ones. So many nice fat adults to top it off. Greenery everywhere, ground was moist still, creeks were running full. Sun was out, but to much cloud cover most of the day. Temp was tops at 89*, breeze was from 0-14 and was supposed to be an average of 3, so much for the weather reports.
I was running my .223 build with a 1/14" tw, 50g Zmax, Savage build, suppressed. My back up was the 6x45 Savage build running a 55g varmageddon. My pal had his ruger 22-250 suddenly going nuts with shots. I think its finally shot out as it was tossing bullets all over like a shotgun this time out. Glad I had the 6x45 in the truck as he ended up using that for the rest of the day.
His other ruger was a 6.5x284 which he used for 800+ yard hits.
Most shots averaged in the 300 yard ranges to a tad under 900 with his 6.5.
Below is what it looked like most of the day.
