Lee collet dies

Are they really that good? I want to be competitive in matches. I am getting about .004' runout with my Reddings. Do the Lees usually load better than this? I also don't neck turn. Could this be part of it? I have to get a ball mike to check my necks sometime. I have lessened my runout by taking off the expander ball.

How much are you sizing down the neck with your Redding,S?) die? With a jug neck chamber and sizing down in 1 step with a bushing die can cause runout. You can try stepping down if this is the case.

It is a standard Redding, not bushing. I have found that only sizing the first 1/3 of the neck has resulted in the least runout. It could be the lee press I am using though... I get some rounds that probably don't even have .001 runout but those are 1 out of 20.

I ordered a set of Lee dies of this type in 308, but didn't like any thing about them. I also have Forester Redding and RCBS, and there all I use, manly Forster and Redding.
I dont know where on the loaded case you take your concentricity, runout) readings, but try taking them 1/8' back from the meplet, if you really want to know what your true runout is, not on the case neck. It makes a big difference.

I have used a Lee Collet die for over a year now on a 22-250. I started with Remington brass and the runnout was usually 2 to 4 with occasional 1s. I have recently switched to Winchester brass and am surprised to get mostly 1s and 2s and some 0s. Seems to be a bargain for the money.
