Lee Collet Die Not Working So Well

I bought a Lee Collet Die to try to achieve best bullet runout on unturned brass. Its not working as expected and do not know why.

Case: Winchester new unfired case w/.0005" neck wall thickness variation.

Phil

Phil,

Check the mandrel on the LCD slips into the neck of the new cases before trying to resize. If it does not then you may need to expand the necks of your new brass before using the LCD, with an expander mandrel eg K&M. The way the LCD works, as you probably know, provides for the neck to be squeezed down onto the mandrel by the collet. The LCD is not an expander mandrel.

Obviously this is not an issue with once fired brass.

Martin.

Been using the Lee collet neck die for my 300 WM and 260 REM with both Norma and Hornady brass and am very happy with it.
My procedure is to decap with a universal decapper then run it through a standard (non bushing) Redding FL die with the expander ball and stem removed to bump the shoulder a couple thou. Then the Lee collet neck die. This gives me about .003
neck tension and .001 or better runout every time. This procedure is very consistent and repeatable for me.

You need to F/L size every time. If done properly, there are no pitfalls.

"LOOK" Erik was laying this smack down long before his video. :D I use Lee Collet dies quite a bit, but I do believe you can't beat a properly full length sized piece of brass.;)
