lapua

wow that's great 21 firings !!! i have to get a annealing machine just not sure which one yet .
i'm not convinced an annealer is required; there seems to be plenty of evidence it's not. i chose the AMP bc for whatever reason i believe it anneals "correctly" and there are a lot of threads claiming it's kind of an all or nothing process; i.e. if you anneal too little it does nothing. not looking to start an uprising justifying one machine over another just some insight wrt to my journey to the AMP. fwiw i've been very impressed with the level of support I've received from AMP given their location.

You might want to watch these two videos before you make up your mind. This method works fantastic with a lot less out of pocket $$$.

I have been using this method for about 3 years. And I hook it up to small vacuum to keep it cool and shut all the bright light off to monitor the progress. Just one small light on to work. You can do a 100 necks at about 5 seconds each with the repositioning included. Plus you will learn the different brass materials that Lapua and others use.

Loads that are loaded hot last much less than loads that aren't loaded hot. Sounds simpleton but… The least amount of firings I’ve ever gotten out of Lapua 6BR brass is 4-5, I usually shoot lower nodes though, some loads have had 25+ firings.

It’s not as simple as asking how many loads do you get, you probably realize that but it’ll be interesting to see what people say.

I can see both sides of the annealing question. I forge knives as a hobby as well. Every piece of metal responds differently when heated. When working with steel, color tells me everything when it comes out of the forge. Same with brass when I do anneal my cartridges...which is not often. Most of my benchrest stuff rarely sees the annealing machine. Now my 30.06 and 308 cartridges do get annealed more often to prevent over working the necks and shoulders. But thats usually only after 4 or 5 reloads. Different strokes for different folks....and I anneal by fire....I like seeing the color.
