Lapua X-Act

What is the consensus from the ones who shoot, or have shot, X-Act in their rifles? I was just able to procure a few boxes to test and was wanting to know others experience with it. Center X has shot well from my CZ so far, wondering if X-Act could be even better?

Shooters looking for top performance should remember at least one thing, if nothing else. That is that .22LR match ammo performance will vary from lot-to-lot.

In other words, some lots are better than others and some are worse

This applies equally to Lapua X-Act, perhaps the most expensive variety of ammo, and to Midas +, and Center X -- and all the match ammos from Eley and RWS.

The name on the box is never a guarantee of how the ammo will perform in a rifle. I have shot some lots of CX that are better than some lots of M+ and X-Act.

Furthermore, not all rifles will shoot the same batches (or lots) of ammo equally.

It might and it might not. The problem comes in designing and implementing your testing so that your results actually mean something, something almost no shooters ever do.

I understand this, but just looking for the good bad and/or ugly experiences from those who have tested it against the other match ammo out there. They're certainly should be some difference with a price tag like X-ACT has compared to most other brands I would think?

I'm still new to the .22 shooting scene, but have tested a wide variety of brands to date in the past 6 months or so. I've definitely found a large swing of variance, even between good match brands in my rifle. This will be the first X-Act that I've shot thru it.

I know 50 or 100 ARA shooters who would switch today if there was a guarantee that X-ACT would give better results. You're looking for a shortcut that doesn't exist.
No shortcut, I plan to test just as I have all other brands to date. Just trying to see what others have found using it

In reality price has a zero factor on it shooting. the rifle will shoot the ammo it likes. but just for the sake of your question say it shoots 1-hole not many full cases are available.

P.S I have tested 6 different lots of X-act in the last 5 years and found it didn't shoot any better than Midas+ and CX and this is in barrels with the Nevius chamber.

I'll be shooting it as soon as it arrives to see how it does in MY rifle. ;) I can only hope it does as good as Center X, hopefully better.

IMHO you MUST batch test all levels and lots of ammo in an controlled environment if you want to gauge the accuracy level of a particular ammo from your barrel. Cost of ammo or level doesn't matter. Case in point, I just tested one of my KK500's with a new Bartlein tube on it, and my existing CX lot (i sent a box with the gun) I owned out shot all the lots of XACT and Midas+ at 50M and 100M at the test center. I ended up buying newer lot of CX they had as it outshot the one I had. So, each barrel is different as each lot is different. Best of luck.

Mup, I've purchased and shot 6 bricks of X-act from six different lots in the past two years. I never got it to perform better than a good lot of Center X in my 452s...and sometimes worse. However; all six lots performed from good to very good in my benchrest rifle. From those six bricks (mostly shot at ARA Unlimited targets) I had maybe six bulls that scored less than fifty, and they were all my fault. I've never had that kind consistency with CTR-X or Midas. (yet). The best group performance I've had was from a brick of Midas, but there were a couple of fliers in that brick that I'm fairly certain were not my fault,

It's probably the most consistent ammo out there, and it should be for the price; but you've still got to find the right lot: and testing with X-act gets in your wallet fast.

Good luck with your testing (and rod guides).

Gerry

It is like everything else, you have to find the ammunition/brand/style that YOUR RIFLE shoots the most accurate.

I have a short story about X-Act,...... When it first came out one of the guys that usually shot with us in New Richmond Wi bought a brick of it.

We were watching him shoot the second relay when he turned and said “I’ve never shot a duce shooting X-Act, and I’ve shot several boxes of it!!”

Yup.....you guessed it the very next shot....the prettiest duce you’ve ever seen.....the laughter went on for about a minute......true story.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm relatively new to any type of competition grade shooting, so forgive my ignorance for asking, but what is a "duce"? :)

Oh, a duce is a 2 point deduction on an IR50/50 target, so instead of hitting the ten ring he hit the 8 ring".......but with dignity!

As a rule good ammo shoots well in a variety of rifles. Gary
Top target is a Anschutz X action with factory barrel, has a Uptagrafft 15 inch bloop tube with tuner. It is in North American Anschutz BR stock and is not bedded. Action screws are at 35 inch pounds. Bottom target is Turbo V-2 in a Bill Pippin stock, bedded with a Broughton barrel with a J&L tuner. Ammo was Midas Plus that I had tested in the Anschutz in Ohio.

This is the metric target and was shot at 100 yards. So yes, I am inclined to believe that good ammo will shoot good. Just though it will better in some over others. Which rifle did I end up using for the competition?
